Ballard Designs is one of my personal favs. I love just about everything in their current catalog, including these burlap message boards.
However, $49 was a bit more than I was willing to pay. Especially when I knew I could recreate this look for free. I already had a canvas (18×18 inch), a large piece of burlap, and some left over upholstery nail heads just sitting in my craft closet.
I think this project is pretty self explanatory so I’ll spare you the wordy details and just show you some pics of the process.
So, this would have been a whole lot easier if my staple gun hadn’t bit the stinkin’ dust after I had stapled just one side. I resorted to using finishing nails and a little hot glue in the corners. It’s okay, you can say it, the back of this canvas look like a hot mess!
Whatev! No one will ever see the back so no big. I am still bummed that I need to buy a new staple gun though. Anywho, I decided to personalize my version.

Gorilla brand super glue is the bomb! Just sayin’! |
The gold letter is from the Hob Lob, and I’ve had it forever.
I decided to place my BD knock-off message board on my mantle.
I love it! I love easy projects. I pinned up a few old family photos. The little ones you see are my mom and dad’s elementary school pics. I heart them, and it seemed fitting with us in back to school mode.
To avoid putting a tiny hole in these old photos, I used a little double-sided tape and placed the pin right on top.
So, have you knocked off any of your favorite stores lately? Anyone have a good recommendation on a staple gun?

I am loving this. It's darling. I love the P on it. {that sounds wrong}. I especially love the photos of your parents as children. How special. Great job.
