DIY Chalkboard Globe

I’ve seen chalkboard globes on many blogs (though I can’t remember which ones at the moment) and also on Pinterest, so when I found a $7 globe at Marshalls I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.

Never mind the suitcase in the background.  It was unpack bags from California trip or prime my $7 globe.  Clearly my priorities are straight.  I used the greatest but stinkiest primer known to man – Zinnser.   I gave it 2 very light coats.
I didn’t even protect the carpet.  I’m just a rebel like that.  😉
Then the primer dried and this little globe sat for weeks waiting to be covered in chalkboard paint.  After Monday’s post I was inspired to actually get something done.  Finishing this project seemed like the perfect place to start.  So, I gave it 2 coats of chalkboard paint and then used some antique gold rub n buff on the wooden stand.

I’m using it on my mantel that, yes, I’ve already decorated for Valentine’s Day.  I couldn’t help myself it looked so bare after Christmas.  It was screaming for some love.  Ha -get it?  Anyhow, I’ll show you the love fest on my mantel tomorrow.
Have any of you painted any globes with chalkboard paint lately?  Am I the only person in the mood for love already?  I don’t usually decorate for Valentine’s Day this early, but I was sort of inspired.  More on that tomorrow.  Happy Wednesday!

  • I am so impressed that you have already decorated for valentine's day! I haven't…but I have thought about it. Points for that right? 🙂 I love how the globe turned out…fairly easy DIY, but so cute. And I can't believe you found it for $7!

  • I knew you were making a globe something with your pic the other day – you globe teaser 🙂

Looks great, and $7 what a score!

My mantle is winter, I'll be showing it next week. I'm not a huge Valentine person but maybe you can change my mind.

  • Love this idea. I also saw another idea of yours that I love on pinterest. Where you frame photo's of all your homes with numbers. But now I can't find it, do you have a post about it? It is the cutest idea.
