Framing a Chalkboard Wall

Last week while cruising through Restore I found this cool antique frame.

It followed me home…….and begged me to paint it……..and rub ‘n buff it just a little.  I thought about having a mirror cut to fit inside, but I decided instead to hang it on the chalkboard wall in my entry foyer.

My Be Nice or Leave display is taking a break for the holidays.  After the New Year it will be back though I’m sure.  That’s the great thing about chalkboard walls that are also magnetic; the possibilities are endless.  I hung the frame from a nail because it’s way too heavy for magnets.
I used a vintage clip-on earring turned magnet to dot the I.

We’re full on ready for turkey day!!!  And I’m just itching to get my Christmas tree out  – eeeeekkkkk, I can’t wait!
Have you found any cool things at Restore lately?  Do little changes make you as giddy as they make me?  What’s your favorite Thanksgiving dish…….this is crazy but my favorite thing is jellied cranberry – yep, straight out of the can – crazy right?!  But for real – I could eat a whole can!!!!!!

  • Your entry is beautiful! I have the same mirror by the way! lol I love your magnetic wall and that with a few small changes you can change the whole look. So clever and practical — such a "fun" wall. I'm thinking of where I could add a touch like this in my home.

  • Ugh, I thought my parents were the only ones that like the canned jellied cranberries! 🙂 It's a staple on our Thanksgiving table! Seriously, will your fantastic ideas never cease? Love your entry switch-up. I think that frame probably was a mirror at some point. It really reminds me of the mirror I have on my mantle right now that was part of an antique dresser. Before I read your post I just returned from buying some chalkboard paint for a spot on the wall-you have me re-thinking if I should make it magnetic, too!

  • Love, love, love this! Beautiful entryway and I love the idea of hanging a frame over the chalkboard wall, it really finishes the space nicely!
I'm your newest follower by the way 🙂

  • Love the idea of hanging the empty frame on the chalkboard wall…brilliant! And never thought of using the magnetic chalk paint…doubly brilliant! Your entry and whole looks fantastic and ready for holiday guests…enjoy!

  • That frame is awesome!!! I LOVE the Restore. As in it physically pains when I drive past and don't have enough time to go in and check things out. My fav Thanksgiving dish is a creamy rice, broccoli and cheese whiz mixture my mom tosses together. It's to die for.

  • That little wall just gets better and better. That frame is amazing and the chalkboard wall is extra special because of the gold letters.

  • Carmel,

I have been sooo successful in the Lexington Habitat Restore. Love that place. Check out my fb page for the before/after of my newest ( a chair for my craft room).
