What’s On My Mind This Friday

1. Kirsten from 6th Street Design School is running a series on Good Design with Kids in Mind.

It’s a great read for moms!   And if your looking for inspiration on designing kids rooms be sure to check out her kid’s rooms pinterest board.
2.  If you follow me on instagram (carmel_ourfifthhouse) you may have already seen this photo.
I’m a huge fan!  I use it as lotion all throughout the summer.  It leaves the prettiest sheen on your skin!
3.  Why is it that when you’re looking for something specific – like say artwork for a particular spot  – you can’t find the right piece to save your life, but when you’re not looking for anything specific you find all sorts of stuff that you love?!    Please tell me that this happens to you too!
4.  Do you have any big plans for the holiday weekend?  My kids last day of school is today, and number one on my agenda this weekend is to SLEEP IN LATE!  I’m so excited to sleep  – you have no idea.

5. Now for the really important stuff.  I want to paint this door.

Yes, I’m still working on finishing this “turn a hallway into a mudroom” project that started over a year ago.  I’m just awesome like that.  Anyhow, I finally got all the shelves and moulding cut and everything is up and caulked and ready to be painted!  But before I call this project done, I really want to paint this door that leads to the garage.  The only thing is – what color?  You all always have the best ideas, so throw them at me.  What color should I paint this door?  I’m up for something FUN so give me something good  – because I’m kind of stumped.

Have a great weekend – hopefully you get a whole 3 days to play and SLEEP IN!

  • Yes, it happens to me too. Looking for something specific??? Nothing works. Done with decorating a room – EVERYTHING I see would work but now I'm out of wall space / decorating space.
I think the door would be awesome in turquoise!

  • My two cents…what about painting wide horizontal stripes in your signature red and blue on the wallpaper in the closet and coordinate the door in either red or blue. 🙂 Wide stripes are way easier than those skinny ones did! 🙂 Happy weekend!

  • I vote for black because 1) It won't show smudges from little fingers; 2) It will blend with the chalk board 3) It will carry on the black doors you have in your great room 4) You have black touches in your dining room, foyer, and kitchen; 5) It's a classic.

  • I totally understand the not being able to find the right piece for a spot when you know exactly what you want. I'm having that issue with the space over our bed.

Also my vote is for Carmel red 😉

    Have a great weekend!

  • I must say I am getting tired of the aqua/teal color that is everywhere. So…I will vote for black. Sure would help hide the dirty fingerprints coming in from the garage. It's always the "dirtiest" door in my house.

  • I like teal or aqua BUT having seen pics of your house I think black would be a classic look and would look beautiful with your house decor.

  • Love, love, love the blackboard calendar. Wish I had space for one. Black would be stunning as several have mentioned, but I'm all about red. I know whatever you do it will be stunning.

  • Here's one for ya…door suggestion… Mirror covering all the boxed areas…..trimmed in white wood and a large X from corner to corner. Trying to talk my husband into doing this to our daughter's updated bedroom. He no wanna! LOL

  • Bright yellow for the door with a stencil monogram (your first initial/husbands first initial/last name) in black.

  • I feel you with the sleeping – to not have to leave the house at 7 every morning will be delightful! My son (12) told me I really should sleep in more because my eyes have bags! Nice. (I suppose he will walk the 10 miles to school?!)

I would paint the door black. But, then, reading all the other comments – red, teal and aqua sound good too! Helpful, I know. 🙂

Hope you had a great weekend!
