Made Over Chest of Drawers – Ralph Lauren Style Soiree!

Even though I’m on vacation I had to pop in for our party – oh wait excuse me – our soiree.  Yes, it’s time for another one of our Style Soirees!  This time it’s all about my all time favorite style icon  – Ralph Lauren.
Our Fifth House - Ralph Lauren link party
There’s no denying Ralph Lauren is the epitome of classic American style.  Somehow his take on tradition always feels fresh and exciting from fashion to interior design.  I always love the way he uses color  – who’s surprised?  I’ve been a fan of the navy and red combo probably since birth.
I love the way Ralph Lauren always add a modern twist to a classic; he always finds a way to make the old feel new again.  Inspired by his style I made over an old chest of drawers I picked up at a local thrift shop.  Being the very bad blogger that I am, I completely forgot to take a before picture.  You’ll have to image what this looked like before.  It was painted a taupe color and had white ceramic knobs with pink flowers on them.  Um, yeah, it wasn’t cute.  But you’ll just have to take my word on that.  I decided to give this mid century modern chest a classic update, and I’m pretty happy with the end result.

I used a combination of things for this makeover.  I spray painted everything but the drawers in my favorite gold spray paint and used Krylon’s Regal Blue for the drawers.  Once dry, I sanded the whole thing down and applied a dark walnut stain over the drawers.

Then I sealed it with a rub on poly and added some gold knobs (Hobby Lobby) and corner brackets (The Home Depot).  Instead of screwing the brackets on I used brass nail heads.

I framed a few of my hubs pocket squares  – yes, he uses pocket squares – and grabbed a bunch of other things I already had to create a little gallery wall.

The medals I won in 6th grade.  I was on the pentathlon team, and I won the gold for essay writing – boom!  #nerdalert

This small spot has become one of my favorites in our basement.  Nevermind the hideous ceiling fan you can see reflected, it’s definitely next on the basement hit list.  But first I plan to organize the drawers in this made over chest to house all the things we need when we’re entertaining down here – more on that coming soon.

  • Wow, the different paint treatments that you used make that little old dresser look so rich and interesting! I never would have thought to layer stain over the paint job, but it really adds so much depth. Very cool!

  • Love how you channeled your inner Ralph Lauren! That dresser is fantastic! I'm marking down Regal Blue as a new "must have" in my spray painting arsenal! Well done!

  • WOW – this dresser is simply stunning. You would pay a lot of money for this in a store!!! Hugs, Holly @ coconutheadsurvivalguide

  • That is gorgeous! May I ask – did you sand the gold paint as well or just the drawers? If do, what grit sand paper are you using?

Also, what is your wall paint color? It's quite lovely.
