Picking up right where we left off yesterday, with my failed attempt at adding a gold lining to the lamp shade in my hub’s office, I’m back to show you how I fixed the situation. I at first thought about buying a new lamp shade for the floor lamp, but finding one in the right size was kind of tricky. All the trouble I was having trying to find a replacement shade just made me want to ditch the lamp all together. This room doesn’t have an overhead light, and having just one light source in the room wasn’t really providing an ideal lighting situation at night. During the day this room gets plenty of natural light, but in the evenings this one floor lamp just wasn’t really getting the job done. So instead of fixing something that was never truly ideal in the first place, I decided to find a better lighting solution for this space.
I called my electrician friend and asked him if it was at all possible to add sconces to the wall and he made it happen…….and without damaging the wall paper! #woohoo #meanttobe The cherry on top? These sconces were $24.99 each from Lowe’s (I didn’t see them listed online. They’re the Portfolio brand; you might be able to find them in the store.).
The sconces, while on the small side, hold regular sized bulbs and provide just the right amount of light at night.
So my diy fail turned out to be a good thing after all as these sconces work so much better than the lamp ever did.
I think sometimes things don’t work out because they’re not supposed to……….not just in design but in life………..maybe that’s reading more into it – it probably is – but I can’t help but see this as an analogy for life. The fails make the successes even sweeter – don’t they?
Love the sconces and I agree, they are the cherry on top.
(That rug makes me sad LOL I have it too and recently had to remove it because my cats pretty much ruined it. I'm currently trying to sew it or fix it somehow.)
