Keepin’ it Real

Here at the Phillips Home, we don’t live to love our house; but rather we love to live in our house!  What  I mean is we aren’t the kind of people that say let’s wait to invite company over until the house is “done”.  We say if you’re coming to visit “us” come on over anytime, but if you’re coming to visit the “house” you may want to call first!  I mean, when you’re a busy mom and dad with two kids and two dogs, finding time to start let alone complete any home projects is literally like trying to find a needle in a haystack!  Keeping the house “clean” is a project in and of itself.

We don’t stress about it though because we know there’s a time and a place for everything, and eventually it will get “done” maybe!  We just do a little here, do a little there, do a little dance, make a little love (oops- sorry I’ve apparently been watching too much Glee, so here I am just breaking out into song), and eventually we’ll cross the home improvement finish line if that line actually exists.  We’re not sure that it does; every time we’ve been close to reaching it, we’ve ended up with a sale sign in our yard!  We’re pretty sure our moving boat will be docked here for awhile though, and we’re thankful for what our cruising around has taught us.  We’ve learned that what really makes a house a home isn’t the time spent decorating; it’s the time spent making memories there with the ones you love.

So while yesterday, I showed you how far our kitchen has come (and it’s still not “done”), here is a little house tour of current unfinished projects (completion date TBA).
Caution:  While halloween is approaching, these pictures were not intended to scare anyone.

This is our guest bedroom.  I’m working on creating a painted faux headboard.  It’s partially taped off at the moment.  I’m also planning to paint all of the walls a light shade of blue.  We have guests coming to stay with us in October so I really need to get crack-a-lackin!

This is a chair I found for the foyer at one of “the usual suspects” here in Lexington- Another Man’s Treasure.  I LOVE that store.  I bought it for $38, and I’m planning to paint and recover it.
And now, for the scariest of all, dum-dum-dum, the dining room………..

Ok, so it’s already come a long way from where it started (I’ll share part 1 of the transformation tomorrow), but obviously the journey has just begun.  The chairs are primed, and will soon be painted black and recovered.  We’ve already removed the wallpaper, and soon (?) we’ll be painting the walls that creamy beige that you see on that small swatch of the wall.  The other planned details you’ll have to just wait for until the big reveal which will hopefully happen sooner rather than later.  We’ll see.  At the moment; school, homework, soccer, swim, and dance seem to be taking up all of our time.  Our little critterbugs keep us busy, but we just love every busy moment with them.  So, that’s us – just keepin’ it real for ya!

  • Yeah. Its Brad. The Hubs. HATE this chair sitting there lonely in the foyer. We will see what she does with it. I can do mission, and obviously modern. I can even stretch to traditional occasionally. But this chair…what is that, Early American? Yikes.
