A Simple Christmas Vignette

Before I show you the Christmas vignette I put together for the console table in my family room, head over to My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia to enter my Willow House Giveaway!  I’m giving one lucky person a $50 Willow House gift certificate!!!  Thanks to Kristin for hosting this giveaway!

Now, for a little console table talk.  First, I need to tell you that we did a little furniture rearranging in the family room after Thanksgiving to make room for some new additions that followed me home on “Smoky Grey Saturday”.  I’m not a Black Friday shopper, but I do like to shop the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  I’ve found that there are still lots of good deals out there, and sometimes people (in their Black Friday frenzy) pass over deals that I happily swoop up the next day (when it’s not so crowded and crazy).  Anywhoo, all that to let you know that I brought up a console table from the basement to use in the family room because I moved the one that was in there into the hubs office.  (Ummmm….that was a mouthful!)  I’ll be doing a post very soon about all of that “rearranging” and “floor planning” nonsense, and when I do, all of this ridiculous rambling will make prefect sense.  (The hubs tells me I have a problem because I rarely, if ever, get to the point.  I just say-  it is what it is – so deal 🙂

So, here is my little black console table (that I bought years ago at Pier 1) in it’s new home in the family room and all dressed up for Christmas!

I just wanted something simple and sweet.  I’m into the “easy” Christmas decorating this year.  I really sifted through my decorations this year, and I decided to only use a few of my favorite pieces.  We have a beautiful nativity scene that was given to us as a wedding present from a family member.  I decided not to bring the whole scene out this year, and instead just bring out the main attraction.

I love how sweet this looks.  I used my Willow House Tall Glass Dome to make this small nativity really special.  With a little piece of clear tape and some twine I taped a silver star ornament to the top of the dome.

Then I just added a few magnolia leaves (from the tree in the front yard) and a red berry.

I just love how simple this looks especially next to my Drake Firefly Lanterns (Willow House).
I also used some twine to tie a few magnolia leaves (are you noticing a trend here) and a red mercury glass ornament around both of my lamps.

Then I grabbed the chalkboard ornaments that I made and used on our “Tree of the Thanks” to dress up the mirror.  I tied a piece of twine to each ornament and then taped the twine to the back of the mirror.  I also used a few red and green twine balls and a little snowflake to mix it up and add some festive color.  Then I grabbed another swag of magnolia leaves and just tucked it in behind the mirror.

Never mind the mess in the reflection 😉

I really love these chalkboard ornaments, and they were so easy to make.  Check here for a little tutorial. I chose “For unto us a child is born” to highlight the sweet nativity under my glass dome.

I really love how it turned out!  It’s sweet and simple, and I didn’t spend a dime!  I already had everything!!!  I really love bringing in some fresh greenery.  Magnolia  leaves are just so gorgeous to me, and really give it a little southern appeal ( I think anyway).  I obviously didn’t do anything to the bottom of the console table.  I didn’t want to make the top jealous 🙂   I do love that seagrass basket (Pier 1 back in the summer), and I use it for all of my mags and catalogs.  The ginormous amber colored glass bottle I picked up at HomeGoods a few months back for $12- oh yeah!
Do you like to dress up your tables for the holidays?  Do you go all out or just bring in a few simple decorations?  There’s so many different ways to decorate for the holidays, and I just love them all!  I’m linking up to Rhoda’s Vignette Party even though I’m sooooo late!  Late is just how I roll.  WhatEV… it is what it is!  Grab a cup of coffee and go check out all the great holiday inspiration!

  • Your vignette is great! I love how you put the "main attraction" under the dome. Your chalkboard ornaments tie everything together, and the use of magnolia leaves looks fantastic too! Very nice! Best of all, after the holidays are over, it will be easy to put away! 🙂
