A Little Somethin’ Somethin’

I hope you had a great weekend!  I sure did.  We finally had a weekend to just do nothing.  Aren’t those the best!  It’s so relaxing not having any plans sometimes; just time to hang around the house and veg out.  Well, I did plenty of nothing, but I did start on a little somethin’ somethin’ that I had been dreaming up for a while now.  Here’s a peak.  Not quite done just yet, but hopefully it turns out exactly as I’ve imagined.

Speaking of a little somethin’ somethin’.  I thought I’d finally get around to showing you how I added that special somethin’ to the backs of the bookcases in the hubs office.  (I promise not use the word somethin’ again in this post!)  I decided to add a grasscloth wallpaper because the back of these laminate Target bookcases looked like this.

It’s just a thin piece of I’m-not-sure-what-you-call-it that was folded in order to fit into the box.  I picked up a roll of this wallpaper from Lowe’s ($19.99/roll) to dress them up just a little.

Instead of actually wallpapering the backs, I used a little scotch tape and mailing tape to adhere the wallpaper to the back of the bookcases.

It was really very simple.  There was a little measuring involved, but not much.  I chose to use tape because I wanted to be able to change it down the road if the mood struck.  I used the mailing tape in the corners because it holds really well and then used the scotch tape down the sides.

It was much easier to “wallpaper” the back of the second bookcase because I added the wallpaper before I attached the back to the bookcase.  This meant that there was a lot less precise measuring involved.  You can see the seams a little, but it doesn’t bother me 🙂
For the most part, I’ve strategically hidden them.

I’m happy with the result.  The grasscloth is subtle but does add texture.  Not too bad for cheap-o laminate bookcases.  Down the road (like probably really far down), I’d love to have a couple of built-in’s added in place of these, but these are serving their purpose for now!
