My little girlfriend’s kitchen got a makeover too!
She has a big double closet in her bedroom, so I decided to use one side for clothes and the other for toys. Santa delivered this pink play kitchen when she was 2, and it is still in perfect condition. Good thing Santa got a little help from a Pottery Barn rebate and a friends & family discount otherwise I don’t think she would have been so lucky. π
She’s 5 1/2 and still loves to play with her kitchen, so I wanted to give her a dedicated kitchen space. Setting it up in the closet works well for both of us – she loves that it feels like a “playhouse” and I love that the “playhouse” has doors to contain the mess. π
I can’t believe how perfectly this little stove fits in here. It’s like this closet was meant to be a kitchen!
She even has open shelving! (Target) She’s a big fan of the command hooks for her teacups.
My favorite part is the flower pendant over the stove. It’s a lampshade that I made for her nursery.
How cute is this little salt and pepper shaker that I picked up for $3 at a thrift shop?!
I also love the gallery wall.
I just used things that I already had to make it feels less like a closet and more like a playroom, or ummm….a playhouse is what my daughter would like me to say. This owl print is actually a note card that I layered over some fun wrapping paper.
The little mirrored butterfly hooks are also leftover nursery decor items. I found them at TJ Maxx (obviously years ago).
The girl loves the chalkboard which is just some plain old chalkboard paint on the wall.
I had so much fun turning this closet into a playhouse. The very best part was the look on the girl’s face when I revealed it to her.
This was followed by her saying, “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” while jumping up and down.
It’s amazing what a little paint and a few accessories can do! I just love that girl and her beautiful pictures!
Are you using any of your closets for something other than the usual clothes and shoes?
Oh my goodness. This is the sweetest girls play area ever! I would have nearly died of excitement. Her face is precious! Good work, Carmel! You always rock it π
How fun! I love it and want to cook at that adorable pink stove!!! What a lucky girl and so cute, jumping up and down! Worth every second of labor you put into it to see her reaction, I'm sure!

This is so sweet and cute! Great job.
OK, now that is good.
Very creative, lovely colors, even better is the reason you did it. This is how we should be spending our creative time and energy, showering love on the people that we share our lives with. I just love it.
Good for you and your sweet pea.
You knocked that one out of the ballpark, girl! So cute! I'm sure she's going to have hours of fun playing in her new kitchen.

Oh my goodness Carmel! That incredible kitchen is only upstaged by her your daughter's face in that picture! I think this is just so creative and I love how you repurposed things so creatively. You've got some serious talent girl! π Vanessa P.S. We featured your kitchen today! π
Amazing! I think that is a great idea. Does hte mess actually stay inside the closet? I've just been using the close to door to the entire room plan:)
I love the memories of my daughter and her best friend playing restaurant with their aprons and fake food. I got them some order pads at the restaurant supply place so they could make it official! Your daughter is precious! Enjoy!
That is awesome. My three year old would absolutely love that. Although, if the stove could become a make-up table, she would love that more. I really enjoy your blog and following this journey (apparently for the 5th time), so I've added you to my links. Keep up the good work!
Wow! Any little girl would be jealous of that amazing play kitchen! And your daughter's reaction is priceless π I'm sure she'll have as much fun playing in it as you did creating it.
Thanks for all of your sweet comments!
omg. I love it soooo much and I don't even have any children. I would have loved to have played in that when I was little.
This is TOO cute! I want a kitchen in MY closet – LOL! Such a great idea…definitely sticking a pin in this one π New follower here!
That is so sweet! Those kitchens are priceless….my daughter still won't part with hers and she is 7! Great job- amazing what a little creativity can do!
That is just the most adorable kitchen. My daughter is long past the age of "playing kitchen" but I will keep this in mind for my longing for grandchildren.
I would have got a kick out of putting this all together as I am sure you did. Your daughter's reaction is priceless. My tween and teen still enjoying playing "kitchen" and now even "restaurant". I think us girls have more fun than the boys π Love the colors, Carmel, and all the perfectly chosen accessories.
I love your creativity! This kitchen is adorable, and I LOVE that it is tucked away into a closet!
She's a lucky girl! There's a closet in my girls playroom that I've been thinking about transforming into a little fun area since they are always bringing pillows and toys in there! Kelly
My 3yr old granddaughter loved it. Where did the stove come from,to cute. She has a closet like that, so maybe for her birthday this May.

Thanks so much!
How in the world did I not see this. This is so precious, Carmel. Does Josie still love it? Is it still that half of her closet. So dear and with all of your projects every detail is perfection.
Pottery Barn Kids
She does – she likes to use it as a hide-out π and she loves to have friends over to play in there. Thanks C!
This is such a great idea! My girls have always preferred to play in cozy nooks of the house so this would be such a hit with them! Too bad that they each only have one tiny closet π
Hi Carmel,
I love your idea, it's so cute and functional. I was wondering if you have a tutorial for the lamp shade?
It was a pre blogging project so I don't have a tutorial. I just hot glued silk flowers all around and hot glued a beaded trim to the bottom. Hope that helps!
