Buy A Little Extra

I feel like a kid in a candy store when I’m in a fabric store!  It’s kind of funny actually because I don’t know how to sew.  This doesn’t put a kink in my fabric obsession though,  and I’d have to say that buying a little extra of a fabric you love is (in my opinion) never a bad idea.  You can do a million things with fabric even if you can’t sew worth a lick (that’s a little Southern slang for ya – don’t forget I married a Kentucky boy).   😉

The black and white fabric that I used as a background to frame my son’s artwork was left over fabric from another project.

I’m a big fan of all things black and white.  Even though I only needed 2 yards for the project I was working on I decided to buy an extra yard.  Apart from using it in this frame, I also decided to make some book covers.

All I did was cut the fabric to the right size and fold it inside the cover – no glue or tape.  Such a quick and easy update and one that is easily changeable when I get tired of the look.

So there you go, the next time you need to buy some fabric for a project, buy a little extra.

Are you fabric obsessed too?  What do you do with your extra fabric?

  • Carmel – great idea. Just did a post about my bookshelves today and one of the things I was thinking about is wrapping my books.

  • 80% of the fabric I buy is for nothing in particular, but because I love it! It's fun to have a stash to rifle through when starting a new project.

And TOO WEIRD and COOL that you know Kelli T?!?!

  • I have a ton of leftover fabric and I'm always looking for projects. I just may have to cover some books! btw.. I sew just a little lick:)

  • The books are nice! Love that! I used to design custom curtains and I really miss having tons of fabric books to gush over! Now I buy dirt cheap remnents from another designer for cheap artwork in frames, pillows, and chair covers.

  • I love browsing the fabric aisles! A lot of the time I buy fabric just to buy it.

I love what you did with the books! I actually covered a book today with the same print but in pink. Great minds!

  • You, my friend, are a design genius. I always have leftover scraps of fabric; never enough for some big project, so this is the answer! There's a glass of wine, fabric, & book covering in my future. It could get crazy up in here. Love how yours turned out–& those lanterns are so charming.
