My Little Souvenir

Whenever we go on vacation somewhere I like to bring something home.  It doesn’t necessarily have to be a typical, tourist-y souvenir, though I have been known to purchase a Christmas ornament with the name of the place we visited.  I just like having things in my home that bring back memories.

The part of Tennessee we recently visited has many antique shops, so you know I had to pop in at least one before coming home.  My hub patiently waited in the car with the kids (yes, I know he deserves an award) while I shopped.  I found this soda crate for $15!

I’ve been wanting one of these for a while now but could never find one at a price I was willing to pay.  I think when Pottery Barn was selling them in their catalog last year many thrift shop owners raised their prices on them.  I was so thrilled to find this crate at that price!  I’m using it as a centerpiece on my kitchen table to coral napkins, plates, and silverware.

It brings that casual summer vibe to the table!  I am soooo ready for summer!

Do you like to bring home a little something when you go on vacation?  It’s always harder to do when you’re flying somewhere.  This is why I never say no to a road trip – there’s more space in the car!  ðŸ˜‰

Happy Thursday!

  • I bring back tons of pictures! (And usually seashells, too.) I have begun decorating my house with the help of Groupon. I have a picture of some boats I took in Manteo, NC, that I had enlarged on metal with a Groupon. The color is amazing! For Easter we went to Oak Island, NC, so yesterday I bought a Groupon for pictures on wood. I got 3 5x7s, so I'll have a beach picture, a lighthouse picture, and a picture of a seagull taking off put on those. Digital photography is the best! I took 300 pictures over the weekend. If I were still using film, that would have been cost prohibitive.

  • I was eyeing those crates when PB was selling them, but didn't end up getting one…now I wish I had (though buying one from a local business sounds even better:).

  • I love that! Totally feels like summer! I am the same way- always have to bring something home from a trip! Sometimes it's not even something I buy, sometimes it's as simple as a rock or a shell. But then sometimes it's something like a huge vase from Mexico…and we're flying home…and my husband has to try to make it fit in our overloaded suitcases and then I have to sweat on the plane thinking about the airline attendants throwing our bags all over the place….(but that one made it home safely:)
I love your find and that is an amazing price! It's always a bummer when a trip ends so it's nice to be able to bring something home that is a reminder of the fun you had.

  • OH Carmel,

You made my heart sing! You see, my husband has tut tutting my soda crate purchases…. A Coca-Cola one like yours, a Canada Dry crate, and a divided Dr. Pepper crate. He thought $5 was a bit pricey! I think I can even use this to go back and buy a couple more… hee hee hee. And for the record we love buying souvenirs on road trips especially one from local merchants. They end up being things we use and they always bring back such sweet memories!

  • If you are ever around lake cumberland area of KY, there is a junk store called kalvin kennets. They have those crates all the time along with neat trinkets and ball jars galore!! My fiance is from there and we went one time and got 5 old books, 13 mixed jars and a picnic basket for $15! SOLID!
