Outdoor Art

I have a confession to make.  I’ve been hoarding canvases.  I have a bad habit of buying them whenever they’re on sale even when I have no idea what I’ll use them for.  So, last Sunday night I thought it was time to finally put them to use.  We had a little family art night.

First I sprayed the front and back of them with some white outdoor spray paint.

Then I grabbed some outdoor craft paint and brushes………

and we had a little family paint party!

When our little masterpieces were dry I stapled some rope on the back to hang them on the lattice of the deck.
One of the boy’s masterpieces.

These canvases add such a colorful punch of fun to our outdoor living area.  The outdoor paint has held up perfectly.  I’ll let you know how they do over the summer.

We also just recently picked up an umbrella on sale and with an extra 20% off at Bed, Bath, and Beyond!
We had such a great time painting together!  I love seeing these little canvases hanging up out here.  I think we need to have more family art/craft nights.
Have you hung any artwork in your outdoor spaces?

  • What a fun idea! Great punches of color for the summer. And I love the graphic print on your outdoor pillows – works great with the colors on the canvases.

My daughter would be ALL OVER this idea. (And your son looks like he's in intense, creative thought). 😉

  • I love this!! I did something similar last year with the kids-and we have them hanging in the hallway and they love looking at their masterpieces. So fun!

  • How fun! I know the kids had a blast doing these and feel so honored to have their art work hanging for all to see. Such a wonderful idea!

  • THis is a great idea! I've done some family art nights (or afternoons) but I usually have a glass of wine in hand and we use paper so they can just keep going and going and going…

I love how you hung paintings up outside. Here in California, we still get too much fog in the mornings, so they would be ruined too quickly, but I bet you can count on some dry time for a while now (it just rained here Monday, craziness!)
