Kitchen Tour

A few things have changed in my kitchen since I first revealed it here on the blog back in February of this year.  I figured it was time to take some new pictures.   It’s mostly the same, except for a few accessory changes (like the framed print I showed you last week and my brass bear lamp), a new rug for the “working part” of the kitchen, and my new breakfast room table and chairs – oh and the stool I spray painted red.  Enough with the talky-talky – here’s how she looks now (as in I took these photos last week).

Okay, wait, let’s look at how she looked before we bought the house.  (Humor me  – mmmmkay?)

Then we moved in and gave her a quick makeover.

(Side note: As a blogger it’s so hard to look at old posts and see how terrible your pictures were.  Not that I’m any better now  – but geesh!)

Then we had some water issues, ended up having to replace our floors, and decided to give our kitchen a real make-this-kitchen-our-kitchen makeover.

You can read all about the deets involved in this mini-renovation including distressing and adding moulding to our kitchen cabinets, taking a cabinet down to bring in a range hood, adding a back splash, and taking cabinet doors off to build in a microwave and wine cooler in this post here.

And now we’re right back where this post originally started.  Here’s how she’s looking as of last week.

  • Such a beautiful and welcoming kitchen! I love the new floors, the tile backsplash and that awesome wine fridge! I would love to redo my backsplash and the tile around my cooktop, but have a hard time justifying the demolition of perfectly good tile for my own aesthetics! So, it will wait for awhile. 🙂 But I do love yours!

  • I love the changes you've made over the years! Your backsplash is so totally awesome, plus the trim you added to your bottom cabinets – I love how custom that makes them look. Also I LOVE how you infused your personality into this space and made it your own!! (side question: do you use a toaster oven? I have a similar kitchen layout and I'm trying to find a place to hide mine….my tween/teens use it all the time but it's so hideous.)

  • I never get tired of looking at your kichen 🙂 I love those roman shades with the black trim and the red and the bear lamp…..that always makes me smile 🙂

  • Um, yeah. Just when I was taking a break over obsessing about wanting to take a sledgehammer to the wall that divides our kitchen from our dining room, you post these pictures. Great. Someone may need to come physically hold me back. I'm pinning a bunch of these pictures. It looks so dang pretty.

  • No it certainly doesn't.. I'm always tweaking, but I love that part of it. I LOVE the new changes. The new chairs are my favorite part! And since I'm a semi-new reader, I also really love your back splash and new oven. They are gorgeous!

  • Love your kitchen! I have a kitchen layout that is almost identical except it has cupboards above the peninsula. When I finally get around to remodeling I would like to get rid of the peninsula and have a small kitchen island going parallel to the two walls. This give me great ideas though. Pinning it for future reference. 🙂

  • Your kitchen and breakfast room are definitely some of my favorites. You've done such a great job making it look beautiful!

  • Carmel…I am one of those people who thoroughly enjoy your posts and often smile while reading them, but do not often post comments. My bad. : ). I do want to say that I love how much you follow your heart in your decorating, and inject such fun and whimsy into your rooms. Beautiful! I will try to post comments more often. I really appreciate you and your blog!

  • I don't have a toaster oven just a regular toaster. Maybe try to cover it up? Or buy a new one that you would want to display on your counter? I don't really love the look of our ginormous Keurig, but we use it everyday so it sits proudly on the counter top. Sometimes it's about they way you live right?

  • I found your blog by way of YHL in the post about today's Pinterest challenge. I am obsessed with your entire house and all of the pops of red, blue and gold with the black and white. Your kitchen reminds me of mine – and I love your curtains! Were those a DIY project? I currently have the cheap Vivan white curtains from Ikea on all my windows and have been trying to find a way to dress them up a bit.

  • wow. i am seriously inspired. i don't comment on a lot of posts but this blew me away. we have almost the exact kitchen/dining/formal dining set up. i am so inspired by what you've done. thanks!

  • Ok, so I used iron-on hem tape to apply the black ribbon to the edges of my white curtains and it looks great – as long as the curtains lay right! The edge with the black keeps folding inwards so that you can't see it. Does that make sense? Maybe my curtains are too lightweight…Any tips?

  • SO I am like totally obsessed with your kitchen! Well, your house actually. Your style is just like mine and I find myself constantly coming back to your site for ideas! 🙂

  • I love all of this!! What kind of toaster do you have? We've been trying to find one and just have not come across the perfect one yet; I love how yours helps keep your kitchen looking classy without being an eyesore!

  • Hello Carmel!! Where did you get your pendant light above the sink? I have been looking for something very similar and haven't found it yet- hoping I can get one like yours! Thanks 🙂

  • Very lovely kitchen, well done! Can you please tell me what the distance is between your peninsula end and the counter on the other side (eg. the passthrough between the peninsula and the fridge-wall counter/cupboards)? It would be very helpful in my own kitchen design. Thanks!
