Well, giant blogger fail – I forgot to take a before picture. Oops. Here’s a during shot.
It was a brown leather-ish dark wood ottoman I bought a couple years ago at TJ Maxx. I sprayed the base Rustoleum’s Navy Blue in Gloss. Then I used a throw blanket I picked up at Target over a year ago to recover the top.
Once again blogger fail – I didn’t get any process pics. So bad I know! I did use this tutorial from Little Green Notebook to help with the corners, and then I used this nail head trim to finish this quick little makeover.
And here she is.
This is not a perfect makeover by any means. I really wanted to use the material from that throw blanket because I loved the soft texture of the material and the large scale plaid pattern. However, this material has some stretch to it, and it was kind of hard to work with (probably why there are no process pics). I wouldn’t recommend using it unless you are covering something that isn’t going to get a lot of wear and tear. In this case I’m using this ottoman as a mini-bench in our entry foyer. It’s for guests to plop their handbags when they come to hang out here, so even though the fabric has a little stretch to it I think (hope) it stays tight and doesn’t loosen up at all. Only time will tell I guess………
it’s working great for now. And the best part is this quick update didn’t cost me a dime – well okay it didn’t cost me any new dimes. I already had all of the supplies. So, if it starts to look a little slouchy I won’t feel too bad about recovering it again.
Here’s how this small corner of my entry foyer is looking now.
Now our guests have their own little drop spot, and I don’t have all their stuff in a pile on the floor by the door – win win – yes?
P.S. For safety reasons I don’t recommend that anyone keep their handbag near the front door. This is not where I keep mine. This is just a spot for guests to use when we’re entertaining. And obviously the door is locked and my dogs are always ready to pounce. π
Do you have a drop spot for your guests?

That is such an inviting corner. Such important details for a guest. Is that a new chevron rug in your foyer? I'm curious of where it's from because I love it's "hooked" look …. so that it doesn't shed. Any opinions on it? Thanks.
