i choose thankfulness

My friend Kelli is an amazing photographer!  She collaborates with Thorn and Sparrow every month to create an awesome desktop and iPhone download.  This months download is one of my favorites!

This month in addition to the download they are also running an #ichoosethankfulness photo-a-day series on instagram.  I’ve had a lot of fun with this series and invite you all to participate as well.  It’s so great, especially at this time of year, to truly count your blessings!  I love this theme  – i choose thankfulness – because it really is a choice.
Yesterday I realized how very thankful I am that I’ve stuck to my New Years resolution (for once)!
I’ve used my camera every. day. for almost a year now!  I’ve forced myself to only shoot in manual mode, and I’ve learned so much.

I’m so very thankful to be capturing these sweet memories.

Blogging has sparked an interest in photography and for that I’m truly grateful.  Using my camera every day is teaching me not only how to use my camera but also how to stop and enjoy each and every day.

I still have so much to learn.  Every day I get behind the camera and it’s like I’m seeing the world with a whole new set of eyes.
I so thankful for……… learning new things…….trying stuff I never thought I could………learning to enjoy every day………..capturing life  – all of it  – not just the big moments – but the every day moments.  I choose thankfulness!  Do you?
I’ll be posting a new photo in the #ichoosethankfulness series every day until December 1st.  Feel free to follow along on instagram – Carmel_ourfifthhouse.  And I’d love for you to join in the fun!

  • Great photos! I'm with you, I love photography so much, and it's such a great thing to learn more and hone that skill through blogging. I still have oodles to learn, but I'm enjoying the journey. We actually braved a family photo shoot for the first time in, um, four years yesterday. So overdue, but family photos stress me out!!

  • I still don't know how to use my new camera that well, and this is the second DSLR I've had. I get so frustrated with manual. I really need to take a class. Your photog skillz are fab! Love the pictures in the leaves – the action photos and the close ups! So cute.

  • Great pics Carmel!! The close-up of your daughter with her eyes wide open in the leaves is my favorite!! Too cute! And I never realized how much your son looks like you until I saw that last profile shot! WOW!!

  • I just used the regular lens my camera came with – turned the iso to 100 and the f stop down as it would do and focused on their faces. I did edit the color with picmonkey though which changed up the colors a bit. All of the other photos weren't edited much at all – except for a little cropping.

But usually I use my 50 mm lens when I'm shooting close-ups of people.
