***This post is mainly for my fellow bloggers or for anyone looking to start a creative blog. For all my non blogging friends I’ll be back tomorrow with stuff that won’t make your eyes glaze over. ๐ *****
In addition to organizing my home this month I’ve been spending some time organizing the blog. I recently updated the top 8 posts (you’ll find them in the sidebar to the right).
I was a little surprised to see certain posts getting so much traffic. My top post of all time according to page views is my post on clothing storage ideas for small closet owners?! That post actually outranks the number 2 spot (the DIY Union Jack Pegboard Headboard) by more than double. I guess there are a lot of people interested in clothing storage ideas or maybe there are a lot of people that have small closets? Whatever the main reason, I know that SEO (search engine optimization) has a lot to do with the reasons why this post has received so much attention. Sure this image has been pinned a number of times, but google is one of my biggest traffic sources.
I think learning about SEO is a little intimidating if you’re new to the game as I am. In the beginning of my blogging days I thought – why bother learning about SEO – I’m just doing this blogging thing for fun. However, as my little blog grew, I realized what a colossal mistake that would be. I’m putting in the time to make projects, photograph them, and then write posts – why not get as much traffic as I can for all the effort involved? – especially since I’ve now monetized my blog. I mean would you bake a cake from scratch, slather it with home-made frosting, and then not have a single bite? You may as well get all you can out of each post considering all the work that goes into publishing them.
I learned enough about SEO at the Haven Conference to get me started in the right direction. I still have a lot to learn which is why I’m so glad Beckie at Infarrantly Creative turned me on to this FREE e-book just for creative bloggers. I downloaded and read it the other day and have started putting some of that knowledge to use as well. I wanted to share this with you all because for one thing – it’s FREE and for another – it breaks SEO down in an easy to understand way. I mean, is there a blogger out there that wouldn’t want to read a free book with the tagline: Maximizing your Search Traffic without Compromising your Awesomeness?! Ha! I think not!
So head over to learn more about the book and to download it for free – I promise if you’re a creative blogger you won’t be sorry!
No one asked me to write this post. I just like sharing the love – spreading the good news – you know like when you find the perfect lip gloss and you call all your girlfriends to tell them that they have to get it – it’s like that.
Thanks so much for sharing! I'm downloading this right now!! I'm a relatively new blogger, so I'm looking for stuff like this all the time! Thanks again!
