Trip Recap: Disney World Christmas Adventures

As you may already know my hub and I surprised our kiddos with a trip to Disney World a few days before Christmas.  We literally picked them up from school and headed straight to the airport.  I packed them both a small backpack that they could use as a carry-on for the plane ride filled with some clues about where we were going.  I had a total mom malfunction and thought I was recording them when in actuality I was taking pictures.  Ummmmm……yeah, so I have this little video of me realizing that I wasn’t actually recording anything.  Awesome!

So that didn’t exactly go as planned, but at least I did get some pics of their faces when they found out we were headed to Disney World. 
They were thrilled!  And their excitement was contagious.  We all had a great time!  It was a short trip, but it was packed full of fun.  We flew in on a Thursday night and came home Sunday night.  We stayed at The Boardwalk Resort which is within walking distance of Epcot, our favorite Disney park.

We enjoyed breakfast with Stitch not once but twice because he’s our favorite character.  

What really made my kids happy were the gluten free mickey shaped waffles.

They were also super pleased about the fact that they got to have gluten free hamburgers as well!  Disney really does a great job of catering to food allergies.  I was really impressed!
All in all it was a great trip.  There were giant Christmas trees everywhere! 

The weather was just cold enough at night to give us all an excuse to wear silly hats in the name of staying warm. 

The fireworks were awesome as usual.

But the best part was just spending time with my 3 favorite people.

It’s just a smile-inducing magical place.

I’m so glad we decided to surprise our kids with this trip.  I think it’s one they’ll never forget.  I know I won’t.

It took me forever to recap this trip.  I didn’t think you’d want to see a bagillion pics, so it took me a while to narrow it down.  😉

  • What a wonderful surprise and fun trip! We love the Boardwalk too and were there for New Year's, bu I broke my foot, so rescheduled to Easter! Love Disney! Happy weekend!

  • What a fun trip! Nice to know about the food allergy thing, I didn't know that. On another note, I've read (and read, and re-read) your photography tips. How on earth did you get that amazing photo of the fireworks!?

  • I was just there for Disney's Wine and Dine half marathon! Love all their Christmas decorations! Looks like such a fun time 🙂 We went w/o kids for the race but we are planning another trip with them in July! Can't wait!!!

    We went to Disney World with our kids a couple years ago. My husband had a work conference to go to in Orlando, so we made it a family trip & took the kids. Griffin was only 4 months old & Parker was 3 1/2. We had a good time, but I want to take them back now that Griffin is older & actually knows some of the characters! We may wait a couple more years to make that trip so that they are both a little older…..I want both of them to be able to remember it!!

    Glad you are feeling better! I'm home from work today with Griffin. He woke up at 4am with 103 fever. I'm thinking the flu bug may have hit our house as well! 🙁

  • What a wonderful Christmas surprise. I just love seeing their faces when they found out. Too adorable!! We went to Disney World when we were young in the summer and then back when I was in high school for Christmas, but not since. My mom is trying to start planning for us to go this summer as a family as my nieces and nephew have never been. Any great tips you have are welcome! It's been so long I'm not familiar any more.

  • We went this summer, it rained hard the entire time but we still had fun. We also stayed at the Caribbean (it was totally yucky, next time we will stay at the better resorts attached to the parks, we thought the kids would love the pools at Caribbean but because of the rain we never went). I would love to see all of DisneyWorld decorated for Xmas, based on my past experiences at Disneyland during December, Disney World would be beautiful. Now that the new park is there I may have to talk hubs into a long weekend trip there during Xmas break 🙂

  • That is so awesome! My parents surprised me and my brothers with 2 weeks to Disneyland the day of as well (we thought we were going camping–we were even packed for it!), and got a card from "mickey" the morning of telling us we were going there. 🙂 Such an awesome way to surprise your kids! They will definitely remember it forever!

  • Sorry for the late question…we are thinking of taking our kids (ages 7, 5, & almost 3) this xmas (2013). Was it super busy when you were there? Did you go the week before xmas? Also, we live in NOVA too. Did you fly out of IAD?
