If you’ve been around here for awhile you may remember this project from last year. I made use of a weird wall in our basement by turning it into an art center for my kids.
This space gets used so much. I’m honestly amazed at the amount of time my kids spend sitting at these desks! However, one of the things they both sort of complained about were the poufs. According to my daughter, “They’re great for watching TV, but for drawing they’re too squishy.” Ummm, okay. The whole point of using a pouf instead of a kids chair is so that when no one is sitting at these coffee-tables-turned-kids-art-desks you can easily push them underneath and get them out of the way. I thought about buying a couple of step stools, but I thought they’d be too hard on their little bums.
So I decided to start looking for less squishy poufs – they had to exist right?! Luckily, I found some at The Land of Nod.
These looked perfectly non-squishy, and it didn’t hurt that they came in my favorite color – red!
I was thrilled to receive them and busted open the boxes immediately only to find that they were too tall for these coffee table desks. I probably should have measured before ordering – oops! Back to square one. I thought about returning them or maybe using them in another room. Then I thought……hmmmm……what if the desks were taller? All I needed was a few inches to make them work. I stopped by the Home Depot to see what I could find to raise these desks up just a little and found these sweet bun feet.
Problem solved.
Obviously I used my favorite gold spray paint and added on some corner brackets too. My addiction to gold knows no bounds.
Adding on these bun feet was super simple. I just drilled a hole on the bottom of each leg and screwed them in place.
And as the story usually goes, one thing led to another as I also decided to take a tip from my friend Courtney and add these brass plate labels to a few of the picture frames hanging on the wall.
I used alphabet stamps to label the pictures with their name and age.

I also added scrabble tiles to the art display clips.
I adhered the scrabble tiles with command strips I cut down to size.
I found this picture hanging here a couple of weeks ago, and it made my heart hurt just a little. Prince was the dog we lost before Christmas last year. It’s amazing to me how therapeutic art can be for a child. I’m really grateful my kids have a little spot that is all their own where they can unleash their creativity and really express themselves.
