What’s On My Mind This Friday

1.  I put together a list of what I consider to be the 5 lighting essentials for Lamps.com.
Head over to check it out and take advantage of this 10% off discount code:  5THHOUSE10

2.  I hope you haven’t forgotten about our Lily Pulitzer Style Soiree coming up next Wednesday.
I’m putting a Lily twist on a simple organizing project that I’ll be sharing at our party next Wednesday.  I can’t wait to see how Lily inspires you!
3.  My mom is flying in on Sunday!  It’s been a whole year since I’ve seen her!  So just FYI – I have some stuff planned for the blog next week, but I may be a little MIA as I’m planning to soak up our time together.
4.  When guests come to stay with us they use the kids bathroom.
Except for that one drawer front half falling off, it’s not too bad – right?  Wait, don’t answer that.  That drawer has been like that for over 6 months.  We tried fixing it – that didn’t work obviously.  It’s a cheaply made vanity.  The drawer fronts are stapled.  My kids laugh in the face of stapled on drawer fronts.
Long story short, last week the vanity was replaced.  I’ll show you some pics next week.
I have big plans for this shared bathroom, and I’m definitely taking some inspiration from Emily’s new bathroom.  I’m thinking fresh paint and a tile wall.  What are your thoughts?  Colors?  Tile you love at the moment?
5.  I know sponsored posts and giveaways aren’t every one’s cup of tea.  It’s a balancing act trying to turn your blogging hobby into a small business and keep that hobby feel.  When you come to visit me here at Our Fifth House I want you to feel like you’re reading an online home journal not a business directory.  I hope you know that I carefully accept sponsors and conduct giveaways based on what I think you all will enjoy.  As someone who has stayed home with her kids for the past nine years, it’s nice to be earning a small (very small) income while doing something I love that never feels like work.  Getting paid for doing something you would be doing for free is kind of awesome.  But I never want you to feel exploited.  I’m always very upfront about what I’ve been given in terms of free product and whenever I’m running sponsored posts.
This whole blogging adventure is so fun and rewarding because of you!  I appreciate you all so so much!
Have a great weekend!

  • I completely support sponsorship and giveaways. Blogging is hard work and even if you enjoy it, it is great to have a little income to help! Keep up the great work! So great you will get to see your mom next week!

  • Hey, first and foremost, this blog is for YOU, so you just keep on doing exactly what makes you happy!

My kids also laugh in the face of stapled drawer fronts.

Your kids' bathroom is WAAAAAAAAY better in that photo than my kids' bathroom is – but that's going to change soon.

  • I can't wait to see the bathroom! And the "Before" even looked great! And listen, blogging IS a hard work, you should definitely be compensated for the effort you put forth. We all love reading your site! 🙂

  • Yay for mom visits! Enjoy every second!

Also, I'm lusting for that brass chandelier. Gorgeous.

Also also, I love how eloquently you state #5. Blogging is hard work & we all get to read yours for free, so it's nice that you get compensated a bit. You always sound genuine & that's why I always drop by!
