Wilsonart Dream Kitchen Challenge & A Giveaway!

I love my kitchen!  I really do.  It truly is the kitchen of my dreams.  It’s been a little over a year since we completed the mini renovation, and I still love every detail.  Sure I’ve made a few tweaks here and there like replacing our breakfast nook table, adding a new pendant over the sink and bringing in some new accessories, but for the most part it has stayed the same.

I’ve always dreamed of a white kitchen with dark wood floors and lots of natural light.

I spend 99.9% of my time in this space and am even writing this post from my breakfast table.  If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a single thing.

However, if you remember, we started with a good but basic kitchen.  Our black granite countertops were inherited from the previous owners.  I often wonder if we hadn’t inherited those countertops what I would have chosen.  Black is pretty easy to work around design wise, but black countertops can be fairly high maintenance as every. single. crumb. shows.  We never thought to replace our black granite countertops because it just didn’t make financial sense to replace a perfectly-good-easy-to-design around countertop.  However, if we had inherited a countertop that was in bad shape or that didn’t fit at all with our design plans…………well, I got to have some fun dreaming about the possibilities thanks to the Wilsonart Dream Kitchen Challenge.

A grey countertop would work so well with our distressed white cabinets, marble backsplash and this gorgeous brass hardware from House of Antique Hardware.

I would totally choose a beveled edge on this grey countertop with an integrated white sink .  Can’t you just see it now?!  This Wilsonart countertop provides the look of granite without the hefty price tag which makes the dream easier to convert to reality.  Not that I’m planning to rip out my countertops, but if they were ever in need of replacing this Wilsonart HD laminate countertop in luna shadow would totally be a no brainer.

What does your dream kitchen look like?  The fine folks at Wilsonart want to know and are offering one of you lucky ducks a $50 Williams Sonoma gift card!

  • my dream kitchen has navy cabinets, white walls, stainless appliances, white open shelving, butcherblock countertops, gray staggered tile floor, a cool rustic island with vintage industrial stools, and opens to the dining room…. i would say i am getting pretty close. 😉

I think I'd need about 7 kitchens to house eveything I've got pinned there, but, in my defense, I have a combination kitchen/dining room, which also happens to house the entry from the garage, the stairway AND the slider to the backyard, all while looking into the great room. I think I need to start paring it down, since I do get to start painting this part of the house soon!

My grey granite is going in as I type – Its taken forever coming though! I am waiting on a cabinet maker to convert a lower cabine to 3 big drawers, then we need add crown molding, paint it white and install the new dark wood floors. Don't think it will happen before the baby arrives though!

  • O holy cow, could I really use a kitchen makeover with some great products! Our kitchen was renovated prior to us buying the house. By "renovated" I mean, someone painted over the cheap cabinets and threw some FLOOR tile down on the countertops. Eww. And gross.

  • Amazing job on your kitchen!
Like you my dream kitchen is my own! I have been renovating it for the last several years to make it my own. I've done the backsplash, molding, paint, hardware, microwave relocation you name it! I enjoy doing it myself, it's my therapy from a stressful job and I enjoy being in it knowing I've created my dream space. It's still in progress and that's ok. What makes a dream kitchen is not rushing into decisions. I love that every DIY project in our kitchen comes with a story. Even my 11 year old was giving me advice on the subway tile spacing! So I think a dream kitchen is simply the one you make your own and brings a smile to your face everytime you're in it (like all day) ; ).
    Thanks for letting me share.

  • My dream kitchen: white upper cabinets, navy lower cabinets. Lots of fun, lots of light. Tons of functional cabinets and shelving. And it's all magically clean all the time! 🙂

  • My dream kitchen is similar to yours, actually. My next step is painting all the cabinets white and replacing all the lighting. Both will brighten and widen the room.

  • I JUST finished a kitchen renovation, complete with new layout, new cabinets, new countertops, and open concept to the family room. It is SO much better than the boxed-in, 1970s harvest gold kitchen we started with!

I used pinterest to compile my ideas- http://pinterest.com/ablackford/kitchen/
Pinterest can prove tricky when you're on a budget, but I referenced it for basic styles and functional ideas.

  • I know the contest is closed but I'm following you both on Pinterest now too. Your kitchen is gorgeous and it matches your blog 😉 Love your blog too!!!
