Making House Dreams A Reality

One of our dreams for this house is going to happen this summer!  Ever since move-in day my hub and I have dreamed of one day putting a roof over our deck and screening in the whole thing.

While it’s been a dream of ours, it has always been at the bottom of the list.  We had other, more important home improvements to make first, like new hardwood floors, giving our kitchen a mini-renovation,  and adding new carpet in the bedrooms and basement.  Now that those things are out of the way and now that we’ve had some time to save our pennies, we’re ready to make our house dream a reality!

Our deck was torn down……

and I can’t wait to watch the professionals make our dream reality.

I’ve been pinning away, collecting inspiration.

  • How exciting, so happy for you that you finally get to do this!
You deck last summer looked lovely, I wish mine could be this cozy looking. Maybe I'll get inspired from you and do a little something about it!
Good Luck with the makeover. I'm going to start following you on Instagram right now to see the advancement!;)

  • How exciting – one of my dreams too! We keep going back and forth between enclosing an actual room and doing a screened in porch! I can't wait to see how yours comes along!

  • Very cool! I would love to have a screened in porch one day. I just love the outdoors just not the bugs in the summer! Can't wait to see your progress 🙂 How exciting!! xo Kristin

  • Oh my gosh, that's awesome! I can't wait to see it all come together.
I bought my house in 2001. A dog, cat, husband, and three kids later, I'm FINALLY getting a new kitchen. Twelve years of waiting, maybe not so patiently, and I CAN NOT believe it's actually happening. We're ordering our cabinets on Friday. Eeeeeeeeee!!!

  • Hi Carmel!

You touched a happy nerve with me! I have a few questions. Why didn't you screen in the deck the way it was? How big is your area? How long will it take? Just very curious. We want to do the same thing!

  • Despite how great the deck looked in the picture the actual wood was pretty bad. Stain helped to cover it but the old deck was almost 30 years old and definitely ready to be replaced. Our contractor was able to salvage the framework but new posts and decking will be going in. I'll have to measure the area – I'm not sure – it is going to be extended a bit on the sides. Fingers crossed it's done by August but with all the rain we've been getting I'm doubtful of that time frame.

  • We just noticed our pergola is rotting so we are thinking a screened porch too. I started pinning so inspiration last week and am so excited to get some more ideas. Can't wait to see how yours turns out!
