Game Center Update

Last fall I forced myself to sort and organize all of our board games.  (I also called all the grandparents and politely warned them to never again gift my kids games for birthdays or Christmas.  I kid…….kind of.)  Ditching all of the boxes for Ziploc bags was definitely life changing.  But after months of living with the set up I had created I realized it was way too small for the large wall it was up against.  So, I made a few changes in order to make better visual sense of this vignette/display/area/ whatever you wanna call it.

Here it is before   – notice how well I cropped the image   – because the huge wall made this area look so teeny tiny.

And here’s how this area looks now with larger artwork and baskets.

Now this game center vignette isn’t dwarfed by the large wall as the craft store wooden PLAY letters, folk art game boards and polka dot canvas bins visually expand this vignette as well as provide more storage.

As you can see I also picked up 4 more of those Ikea baskets for the top row.  They are so great for hiding things.

Kids Game Storage

I added a wooden craft cutout to keep the contents of the baskets completely hidden.  I just spray painted plain wooden cutouts white and hot glued them to the inside of each basket – quick and easy.

It’s amazing how a cute polka-dotted canvas bin can make a pile of messy, unfolded-perfect-for-building-forts blankets look chic isn’t it?

My kids don’t mind cleaning up either  – because all they have to do is pile everything back in the baskets or bins – which is pretty simple and totally saves my sanity!

These new changes have made a world of difference!

Organized Game Center for Kids

Do you have a game storage area?  What was your favorite board game when you were a kid?  I loved the game Payday – did you all ever play that game?

  • I luuuurve those game boards on the wall as art. I saw some at a super cool vintage store that I wanted to do this with. They were outrageously priced so I didn't end up taking them home 🙁 Looks great in there. Can't wait to do the same toss and hide strategy in our playroom.

  • Wow! I love the game board art. It was worth the price and couldn't be more perfect for the space. It's wonderful that you have room in your house for a dedicated nook like this.

  • I love this area! I don't comment very often but I felt compelled to today becuase I just had that "moment" where I realized of all the home blogs I read, your style is the one I love most! Thanks for being an inspiration to my decorating style. Have a great day!

  • I love the addition of the new game boards, it definitely makes it look more finsihed! I may have to take your lead on trashing the boxes – we don't have any kids but have managed to collect a decent amount of board games.

  • So many of ours were broken and taped together so it was definitely time to let them go. It's actually easier to put the games away without having to worry about every piece fitting perfectly inside of a box!

  • I love this Carmel. Thankfully we have a pretty generous hall storage area so we keep all our games in there, but I do love how you have the Legos in the glass vases. We have a game table in our family room and I think that could be a great way to store things like Legos and cars so they look pretty and are readily available as well. I also really hove how you used the board games as art. So creative! Thanks for the inspiration.
