Early Fall Mantel

So I decorated my mantel for fall.  Don’t freak out.  I know it’s just barely September, but the stores have been trying to sell us fall for months now!  I didn’t bust out any pumpkins or anything……yet.  I just brought in a few fall elements to warm things up a bit.

Our Fifth House - Fall Mantel

See it’s not slapping you in the face fall.  It’s just barely fall – it’s early fall.

It’s about time for bust out a pretty scarf weather.

Fall Mantel Decorating

At least it is according to White Beauty.  She borrowed my wannabe Burberry scarf (the one I used here).

I kept things pretty simple and used a lot of the things that were already on the mantel.  I brought in some dried eucalyptus and made a little fall art with some dried magnolia leaves.

Easy DIY Fall Mantel Art

I taped a fabric napkin (Target -purchased last fall) to the back of this wood frame (also Target – purchased a few months ago).  Then used command strips to adhere black clothespins (I painted them with acrylic craft paint).  I collect vintage clip-on earrings, so I used a few to embellish the clothespins.  This was such a simple, quick and free (to me) way to add a little fall art to the mantel.  I love the way the shape of the magnolia leaf mimics the shape of the feather (which was yet another Target purchase from last fall) that I gave a little gold rub ‘n buff treatment.

This mantel definitely has me in the mood.  I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m ready to put the flip-flops away and get cozy in some boots!  Yep, I even bought 3 cans of pumpkin to do some baking this weekend – bring it on!

Are you ready for fall too?  Have you busted out any pumpkins yet?

  • It has taken every single ounce of restraint not to buy any pumpkins yet. The grocery stores are even selling them! I still have all my plastic ones along with the rest of my Fall decor. The tote is sitting on my living room floor…waiting for this weekend. I love the way you decorated your mantle it is adorable.

  • Love your White Beauty, and the scarf is the perfect touch! And to answer your question — oh, yes, Fall has popped out big-time over here! Even though we are still in triple digit temps, my home has been "Falled" all over! I just crank the air down and pretend, and just never go outside….lol!

  • I love the scarf on White Beauty 🙂 That is fun and a subtle nod to fall!
Do you want to know a secret??????? I have not touched my mantle decor since last Christmas. In fact it has NO decor to speak of. What the heck kind of home blogger am I??? …..but you may have just inspired me to do something new today. 🙂 🙂

  • It looks great Carmel! Love the plaid scarf on White Beauty! Fall is my favorite season. We're redoing our fireplace next month and I cannot wait until I have a mantle to decorate.

  • Gorgeous!! Love this. We're experiencing unseasonably warm weather here in Alberta and all I can think about our pumpkin muffins, tall riding boots and cozy scarves. Living vicariously through your mantel right now 😉

  • Can you tell me if you use real wood logs inside the basket next to your fireplace? Do you worry about bugs or how do you manage this? I love the look of logs next to the fireplace (even though ours is gas!), but I'm scared to bring in real wood!!! Thanks!

  • This is lovely! I'm going to have to go this route with our fall decorations! I think I have that same scarf – knock off Burberry from TJMaxx – two thumbs up!

  • Im absolutely NOT ready for fall Carmel!! I was hoping you'd be with me on this one:) Oh well, your mantel looks great nonetheless. I love the art you created with the magnolia leaves. Im not a huge seasonal decorator, but this definitely gets me in the mood for cooler weather. Thanks for sharing.

  • Carmel,

Love the mantel!! I have a question about your chair in the family room. I have the same or similar ones in my family room. I got them at pier one, but I HATE the cushions I bought there to go with them. Yours looks different and I like it MUCH better than ours. Help on where to buy please?

    Kris

  • Yes – mine is Pier 1 too. I bought the cushions there too – but this isn't the one they recommended for the chair. It's actually a canvas covered cushion made for a totally different chair. I bought the chairs about 2 years ago and I can't remember the name of the cushion – but I'm pretty sure they still carry this same one.
