Another title for this post could be – A Thrown Together Last Minute Fall Front Entry – because in truth, that’s exactly what this is.
You see the truth is as much as I love seasonal decorating it seems like I never have the time to do it.
Probably because I always have some major unfinished house project that needs some attention so I feel guilty about spending time doing things that don’t really need to happen.
But really, we all know, that decorating the front entry of our homes for fall is an absolute must do! Especially since I’m the neighbor that totally skipped over the whole pumpkin month last year – yep, I was totally that neighbor – with dead ferns by her front door on Halloween – now that is scary.
So I needed to redeem myself, but I still have other more important things to attend to – like stripes – cough – that need to be taped and painted still.
I threw this together in less than 30 minutes.
Yes, we still have that terrible looking brass intercom doorbell thingy. I have got to do something about that hideousness someday.
But back to the thrown together fall situation I’ve got going on over here. I only bought the lettuce/cabbage? plants – what are they called? and the pumpkins – all from Kroger – big ups to grocery stores that carry plants so we can skip the extra trip to the garden center!
Then I came home and played a little game called – put the kids to work gathering fallen branches in the backyard. I love that game.
I raided my fall decor and pulled out a leaf garland then just wrapped it around the boxwood wreath I already had hanging on the door.
Bam! Done! Moving on……..
The kids got tired of playing “gather branches”. Weird huh? So I started a new game – spray, stuff, stack & hide – say whaaaaaaaaaat? Yeah – check it out below.
Sprayed the branches white – then Stuffed them in the plant – then Stacked the plant on top of a planter I turned over – then Hid the container the plant is in with a fall wreath (I bought at Hob Lob last year).
Like I said – spray, stuff, stack and hide – most fun game ever. 😉 It takes like 5 minutes. Woot!
If you’re still scratching your head – here’s a close-up.
So there you have it yo – a fall front entry in 30 minutes. I mean you won’t be seeing this on the cover of a magazine, but hey, it’s better than dead ferns right?!
Have you decorated your front entry for fall yet? How is it already October? I mean really? What the heck happened to poor September?
It looks great. Sometimes you just need a little touch of the season to brighten things up.. no need to go all out when you've got bigger projects on the back burner, right?
This totally made me giggle. We have similar styles! I stuff, spray, twist, turn, and stick until I can walk away, too! Love that the kiddos went on a branch hunt. It really looks gorgeous. I have yet to do much. Ahhhhh!
Perfection! And yes I could totally envision this on the cover of a magazine!!! I love using branches for a little height, and your cabbagey-plants and leaf garlands look great! My pots are still in summer mode, I haven't even taken out the fall decor yet…..and it's already Oct. 9. At this point I might as well just fast forward to Christmas decor!
It looks great! We really want to go get some pumpkins soon, so I'm hoping to add to my wreath and mums and finish off my fall look!
and it looks perfectly warm and inviting! love the branches and love the symmetry!
It looks gorgeous. Beautifully done. Hugs, Marty
This is beautiful!! Where did you find your front door? Love it!
30 minutes huh? Ok, so you have me totally inspired to take the dead plants off my front porch and in 30 minutes turn it into something fabulous. Think I can paint a front door AND make it Fall Fab in 30 minutes? 🙂
If you want my opinion (and everyone does!) take that brass plate off of the intercom and spray it with some oil rubbed bronze. At least it will match the door set.
You're my hero with the fall porch – mine has exactly nothing on it right now.
Thanks! It's an Anderson door from Home Depot. We added the grates and had the door painted. You can find the color deets by clicking on the last link in the post above.
I may take your advice – I've had the hardest time trying to find something to replace it. We got rid of the intercom system that was in our house – but it's much easier to patch drywall than brick 😉
Not sure on the paint 😉
Hi Carmel, Gee the front porch looks very warm and inviting. Great job for 30 minutes of your time! In her post above, I also like Tammigirl's suggestion about the bronze spray paint. Priming first might be a good idea, too. But what I really wanted to say was that I wondered if you have ever tried to remove that intercom box? Because the facade of your home is brick, could it be possible that the masonry people only drilled a small hole in the brick to allow an electrical wiring hook-up? A small hole would be alot easier to plug/disquise than dealing with a hole the size of that box. Listen to me…I sound like the new Mrs. DoItYourself!! I truly don't know what has come over me!! Yay! A new game for my kids!! "Find branches in the yard" sounds like something that might just buy me 30min too although I'm fairly certain I couldn't pull off the same kind of fabulousness that you did in that amount of time. 🙂 Your porch looks wonderful Carmel! Vanessa
Beautiful. I agree with Tamigirl, paint it to match the door hardware and it will look like you planned it!
I'm with you, I don't believe it's almost the middle of October! This weekend I hope to tackle my entry which doesn't look bad since my Ferns still look really good:)
I love it!!! Going out in the yard to gather leaves and branches! (Kids are at school!) It will look a lot better than the pile of empty planters that I have adorning our front door at the moment (perfect for stacking)…
Wow, looks perfectly festive and certainly not like a 30 minute makeover, you could patent 'spray & stuff, stack & hide!'! I love all that symmetry, too! 🙂
I think it looks great!
Well, it may have only taken you a few "nano-seconds" to create this, but it looks fabulous! I'm sure you have been redeemed in your neighbors' eyes!
