Side Table Makeover featuring Rub ‘n Buff

rub 'n buff side table makeover

Say hello to my newest victim.

side table makeover with rub 'n buff
You all already know how obsessed I am with rub ‘n buff.   I honestly can’t help myself at this point.  This plain black side table was just sort of sitting there screaming for a little gold detailing, and rub ‘n buff is just so darn quick and easy.  How could I refuse?
In true bad blogger form I don’t have a good before picture, but you can see from the pic below that this table was a basic all black before I went at it with gold fingers.

In addition to adding gold to the edge I also gave it a gold top  – of sorts.

I completely covered the top with rub ‘n buff in gold leaf and let it dry for about 3 hours.  Then I sanded the top of the table with a medium grit sanding block to create this look where the gold is only in the grain of the wood.

I’m kind of in love with the result!  It adds even more pattern and texture to the room.

Besides the drying time, the whole makeover only took about 20 minutes!
Are you obsessed with rub ‘n buff too?  We should totally start a support group.

  • I love the gold rim but the top is killer! Thanks for the idea! I'm now mentally going through all of the furniture in our house to see what I can try this on 🙂

  • Great looking table, and I have a small cabinet I want to Rub and Buff but cannot buy the product locally so need to order online. Darn shipping fees. Can't wait to try a project though!

  • Oh my! I am in love! Same here…. My name is Jennifer and I am addicted to rub-n-buff. There I confessed. So now I can go copy this on my black side table.

  • Ack! I think I'm the only person left on the planet (or at least the blogging planet!) who hasn't tried Rub n Buff and every time I see one of your amazing projects I'm bound and determined to find something to try it on! You're going to have to hold me to it Carmel! 😉

  • I started using Rub N Buff about 10 years ago, I think, to add some interest to picture frames. I've converted a couple of friends — wait until they see this a great idea!

  • WOW – that's a really clever effect you achieved. I can say that's the first I've seen of that! Thanks for using AMACO's Rub 'n Buff. I'd like to post that on our Facebook page Rub 'n Buff Metallic Finishes. Keep RNB'ing!!
