book club – big little lies

It’s that time again.  Well, actually I’m a little late posting my book report for September’s book, Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty, which was chosen by Cassie.

book review - Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
As you may already know, book reports/reviews only come once a month, usually the last Sunday of the month.  So if reading isn’t your thing, feel free to skip these posts and come back for the regularly scheduled programming.  ðŸ˜‰  But if you do like to read, feel free to join us and read along.  I’ll share the book that was chosen for October at the end of the post.

Big Little Lies was a great fast read.  I loved Moriarty’s writing style, and now I want to read her other books!  This wasn’t one I probably would have chosen on my own, but I really enjoyed reading this book.  That’s what I find so great about a book club; you’re exposed to things outside of what you would normally gravitate towards.
Big Little Lies follows the lives of a group of women who are all different but who share one thing in common – they all have children in the same kindergarten class.  The book opens with the main event in which a murder happens at the school, but you as the reader don’t know who was involved.  Right from the start this story just sucks you in and you can’t stop flipping the pages until you find out exactly what happened.  As the story unfolds you get a closer look at the lives of each of the women, and you realize that things aren’t always as they appear to be.
This story was entertaining and humorous, but it also gave a true reflection of the real life trials we all face from relationship issues with friends and spouses to bullying in school.  If you’re looking for a quick read, I’d highly recommend this book!  But don’t hate me if you start reading and don’t get any laundry done for 3 days.
For October, we’ll be reading The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry.  Feel free to read along with us!
Be sure to check out the other reviews of Big Little Lies from Cassie, Kirby, Katie and Brenda!   And check the sidebar to the right under Blogger Book Club to see what books we’ve read in the past.

  • The author was quite savvy by intimating there was a murder, but just giving us little blurbs of info. It kept you coming back, thinking you might get more clues. Very smart way to get a reader to read the whole book!
