I can hardly believe it, but in four days my baby girl will be 11 years old! My, has the time flown. Her main birthday request was that I give her room “a more grown up teenager-y look”. I was like, wait, whoa, let’s pump the breaks here little miss. You’re going to be 11 not 16! 😉 That being said, I was more than happy to fulfill her main request for new bedding. She was, in her words, “over” her floral quilt.
Bring on the Colorful Tassels!
This new tassel bedding is perfect for her room. It’s so fun and colorful! It goes great with her coral bed and aqua nightstand. It also pairs perfectly with her miniature schnauzer canvas art print! I love it when one simple change totally freshens a space!
Raiding my pillow hoard I found a couple of black and white pillows that work really well in here. Good things come to those who hoard pillow covers. 😉 I feel like I’ve had that black and white ampersand pillow for twelve hundred years……I swear that pillow has lived a million lives around my home. And you just can’t go wrong with Betwixt, especially in the black and white color way. The aqua marble-patterned pillow cover I happened to find at Hobby Lobby. It’s the perfect shade of aqua for the room, and the black piping makes it look intentional rather than just a lucky find. LOVE it when that happens!
Seriously though, if you haven’t checked out Hobby Lobby pillow covers lately, you really should. They are priced so well and come in all sorts of fun patterns!
Accessorizing with Meaningful Things
I really do love her new tassel bedding, but her bunny lamp is one of my favorite things in our whole house! I got it for her room last year (but I don’t think I’ve ever shared it on the blog). Switching the white shade it came with for a black one gave it a little extra pop.
One of her nicknames, she has many, is Bunny. But of all her nicknames that one holds a special place in our hearts because my son gave it to her when he was about 2 1/2. So this little bunny lamp is so much more than just a sweet bedside table lamp. It’s a memento of her childhood and precious moments with her big brother. I could tear up just thinking about it…….I’m so emotional this week!
Alright, I know, I need to collect myself. Sheesh, she’s going to be 11 not 18. But something about my baby turning 11 and heading to middle school this fall has me feeling all the feels. Giving her room a little refresh has been a great way to sort through all my momma emotions. 😉
And kids rooms really are my favorite spaces to decorate. Like opening a fresh box of crayons, they’re just wide open with all the possibilities! Bring on all the color and pattern, and just have some FUN!
bow pillow, pom pom throw -another Hobby Lobby find
Next we’ll be freshening up her gallery wall and desk area, and then I’ll finally get around to hanging some curtain panels. I thought creating a nursery for her was fun, but designing with her is even better! It’s so fun to hear her ideas and help her bring her own vision for her space to life. When you walk into her room you immediately get a sense of who she is. She’s bright and spirited and full of so much personality!
Awww…I get it girl. I will soon have two empty rooms to redo. One is living here a bit longer but has outgrown the decor in her room and the other has moved on. I still won’t each space to reflect them, but just a more grown up version.
