One Room Challenge – Week 6 Update – The Finishing Details

Well, hey friends!  I didn’t mean to abandon the blog this week.  But between busting my tail on my son’s room makeover for the One Room Challenge and prepping for the Bookshelf Styling Class I taught at our local West Elm store, I just couldn’t seem to get my act together enough to put a blog post together.  So sorry for the radio silence!  I’m back today to share a quick update on my teenage son’s room makeover.

If you recall, I ran into a little setback last week, but thankfully I recovered.  Thanks for all of your thoughts and opinions on the wall moulding project!  I’m going to wait to share what I ended up deciding to do until the reveal of the space next Thursday.  What I’ll say for now is if I never have to caulk anything ever again I will be a happy woman.  Ha!  Caulking is not for the faint of heart.

It’s been gloomy and gray the last couple of days, but even on the cloudiest of days I still really love this moody grey color I chose for the walls.  It seems so appropriate for a teen.  😉

The Fun Part!

With the major stuff like painting and the moulding project done, it’s time to start doing the fun things!  Styling is always my favorite part of any room design project!

With the bones of the space having a more mature tone, I’m infusing teenage vibes with the art and accessories.  He may be a teen, but he still likes a nightlight.  I think the shape and style of this one adds some quirk to the space and doesn’t feel overly juvenile.

It’s so pretty at night too!   This car print is a photo my son took during our Italy trip.  He has a thing for cars, like his dad, and is always taking pictures of cars he likes.  I had this picture enlarged and printed at Staples.  Meaningful art that is personal and represents your loves…..that’s what it’s all about.  I love that he took this photo…..during his first overseas trip……..of something that caught his eye and represents what he loves.  It make my heart so happy!

So while I have most of what I need to finish the space ( I’m still waiting on a framed print I ordered from Society6 that has arrived broken twice.  Hopefully the third time is the charm), I still have a lot left on my to-do list.

Still To-Do

  • Hang Curtain Panels
  • Replace Ceiling Fan
  • Install Gallery Wall
  • Hang Mirror
  • Finish Styling
  • Photograph the Space

But I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.  And every day I’m getting closer to the finish line!  Plus, it’s just so fun to see how excited my son is about how his room is coming along.  I just adore this kid!

So here’s to keeping the momentum going until the reveal next week!

Be sure to go check in with all the other One Room Challenge participants to see how their spaces are taking shape!  I just love the excitement that surrounds this challenge!

It checks all the boxes! Last push for the ORC. Here’s to a strong finish! 🙂
