Maybe you’re thinking, “What’s a cupcake picture doing in a blog post about beauty?” Â Go with me here for just a second. Â You see, this isn’t just a cupcake. Â It’s a gluten free cupcake from a local bakery chain near us. Â But the fact that it’s gluten free isn’t what makes it special. Â What makes it special is that it wasn’t special ordered. Â It wasn’t bought on a “gluten free day”. Â This bakery now sells gluten free cupcakes every day of the week.
If you’re not gluten free you may not think that’s any big deal. Â But if you are, you understand the significance.
When we first started down this gluten free road about 5 or 6 years ago, there were hardly any options available. Â And now, the marketplace for gluten free food is booming! Â We have options everywhere now!
It made my heart so happy to hear that this local bakery chain was now offering gluten free options every single day of the week!
Not just because of the fact that now we don’t have to wait ’til Friday for cupcakes or that I don’t have to special order a whole dozen just because I want them on a day when they’re not normally making gluten free, but because this is living proof that we as a community have the power to affect change with our wallets!
The Power is Ours!
It’s supply and demand, economics 101, in it’s simplest form at play here.
And it’s because I’ve witnessed first hand how consumer preferences shape the marketplace that I share the message of safer beauty so loudly!
I share because there are still so many people that just don’t know that companies are allowed to use harmful ingredients and make their own judgements about safety.
I share because whether you choose to use Beautycounter, my personal favorite safe beauty brand, or not, when you start purposefully buying products that are cleaner, safer, toxic-free, those purchases make a difference. Â It sends a message to an industry that is so grossly under-regulated. Â A message that says, even though the laws don’t demand you make safe products, I will not buy your toxic-ingredient filled products. Â And when consumer demands change, the industry will change. Â And that is a win in my book!
So I share because I care. Â Because I believe whole-heartedly that no one should have to sacrifice their health for beauty.
