Dream Closets

Well, I’m still working on closets!  I know, you can’t believe it’s taking so long!  They were all in such bad shape!  I really want to do this “organizing” thing right, so that the clutter ghost doesn’t come to live with us again 🙂  For a little inspiration and motivation let’s take a look at some beautiful, well-organized closets!

This one is from HGTV’s Dream Home 2008.  I love the idea of using color on the walls and adding personal accessories to make the closet look and feel like a room of it’s own.  I’m thinking if your closet looks this nice you’d probably do your best to make sure it stays this way!

What a great idea to use a small kitchen island in the center for additional storage in this large walk-in closet.  Too bad my closet isn’t this large.

While the two previous closets were pretty much swoon-worthy they are a little out of reach (for me anyway) so here are a few that present ideas that are actually attainable (I hope).

Real Simple

I really love how the owner took a basic walk-in closet and turned into a beautiful dressing room.  I love the use of color here!  Bringing in a mirror, chest, and ottoman is what really made the space feel more like a dressing room.  Plus the ottoman could be used as a step stool to reach the higher shelves in the room (if you’re vertically challenged like myself).

House Beautiful

Again, a great example of turning a simple walk-in into a simply gorgeous dressing room!  They didn’t spend money on a fancy new closet system, but instead added some trunks for extra storage and display (which if they ever move will go with them instead of transferring over to the new owner).  The wall paper and the chandy give this closet a totally custom look.

As a handbag lover, I wish I had the closet real estate to hang all of mine from hooks like this!  I’m a big fan of grouping like items in a closet to make it really easy to find things.  Also using the same kind of hangers rather than a mismatch of lots of different ones really gives this closet a nice clean look.

And now for some kid’s closets that are really fun!

I love this little girl’s closet.  The color makes me happy!  I love how they added easily accessible toy storage, and used the higher out-of-reach shelf for keepsakes and collectibles!

I love all the labeled bins in playful colors!

Love the idea of using peg board for storage, and how fun to use a skateboard for shoes!
Well, I think that was fun and just the motivation I needed this morning!  I think the takeaway here is to group like items, bring in bins or a dresser (if you have the space) to maximize storage, take advantage of your vertical space (by storing out of season clothing or keepsakes up top), and create as much floor space as you can by using some kind of shoe storage.  Oh, and don’t forget to add some personality to your closets either by bringing in some color via painted walls/ wall paper or colorful storage bins.  Also think about adding some functional decorative items like a hat stand or jewelry organizer.  Get creative and think outside the closet!
Have you been doing any closet organizing lately?  I’m finally starting to see the light at the end of tunnel.  Hopefully I’ll have some pics to show you next week, or at the very least some progress pics 🙂
This organizing business is hard for me; it’s not my favorite thing to do, but it was really needed in our house!  I’m hoping my time and effort will pay off in a big way and make getting ready in the morning easier and less stressful!  Here’s to hoping anyway!
Have a great weekend!
