Making lists is kind of my thing. It keeps me sane. Although, as a busy stay-at-home mom I have learned not to stress out over the things that I’m unable (for whatever reason) to cross off my list. The point of the list is to keep me focused (squirrel); and to help me feel “accomplished” when I actually do complete something and am able to cross it off! That being said here’s the list for 2011.

Somebody call 9-1-1! |
2. Organize and decorate the laundry room. Thanks to some new Maytag appliances (that should be arriving soon) courtesy of The Home Depot’s appliance sale and a Maytag rebate we are on our way to the laundry room of our dreams. I’m so excited! We’ve been saving for a new washer and dryer for a while now. (It’s hard to believe that I’m actually giddy about a washer and dryer. So much has changed in the last 10 years!) They’re red (my favorite color)!
4. Paint or stencil the ceiling in the dining room? Paint is definitely happening not sure on the stenciling part? Ideas and thoughts are welcome!
5. Paint the buffet door between the dining room and the kitchen (maybe black- still undecided).
6. Paint the ceiling in the hubs office. (This is an old pic; I’ve already made a few changes in here that I haven’t posted yet- coming soon.)
7. Repaint the kitchen (I’m thinking of a cream with a slight yellow undertone). Take a few cabinet doors off to open things up a little. Add some molding to the cabinets to give them more of a custom look. Switch the red glass shade for a clear one (kind of over the red- surprising – I know!). Replace cabinet door knobs (possibly glass). Replace microwave with a hood range. Add a white subway tile backsplash (will be hiring out for this). Lots of changes planned for this room. We plan to tackle each item slowly as time and our finances will allow.
8. Update the master bedroom and bathroom. It’s dated and a bit too traditional even for my taste. I kind of wish now that we hadn’t gone the “bedroom set” route because it’s a little too matchy-matchy for me now. Alas, hindsight is 20/20. We bought this set almost 8 years ago! I’m thinking of changing these night stands for something else (undecided still). I plan to bring in new bedding, new draperies, and new lighting fixtures. I’m also thinking of possibly stenciling the headboard wall (we’ll see).

Remember I told you I borrowed the lamp shades that were on the sconces in here for the dining room. These have remained shade-less since then! So sad. |
9. Redo the kid’s bathroom. Paint and update on the cheap.
10. Finish the guest room makeover that I started last year 🙂
11. The foyer needs help. That’s all I can really say there.
12. Decide what to do in the half bath. Remove existing wall paper? (I’ll post pics soon so you can help me decide.)
13. The basement. It’s already finished but it’s not really “finished” if you know what I mean.
14. The family room is going to be outfitted with new sliding glass doors. In the words of the contractor who will be doing the installation, “Your patio doors should be in a casket.” Yeah, they are in BAD shape; completely rotted. There is a plastic tarp covering them from the outside to keep water out. Nice! (Sorry for the old holiday pic, but I haven’t taken any new pics of this room since I de-Chrsistmased.)

The coffee table looks like this now. |
15. We hope to replace the outdoor furniture on the patio with a larger table and chairs to make outdoor entertaining easier. I wish I could transport myself into the warmth of this picture. I’m so over the snow already!
16. I want to add more pavers and extend the patio. I’d also really love to add some kind of a garden. I don’t exactly have a green thumb, but I’d love to start learning and planting this spring/summer.
17. Organize the garage (possibly by having a garage sale to kick off the summer?). It’s a mess. It honestly needs professional help.
So there you go. It’s a long one – I know! It’s not a list of “have-to-do’s” it’s more like a list of what we’d “like-to-do” (that is except for the patio door replacement). Hopefully we’ll be able to cross some things off this year. Fingers crossed. I do a pretty good job staying focused until the kiddos get out of school for the summer. Then I turn into a vegetable, and I spend my days at the pool and my nights roasting marshmallows over the backyard fire pit 🙂 Oh how I long for warm summer days! However, if this crazy snow keeps up my kids may not have a summer! We already have to make up a week of snow days! BOO!!!
Have you made any house lists this year? Any specific goals in mind? Do tell! I need the motivation!
I’m linking up over at the nester’s home goals party!
Wow! Your home is gorgeous. WOW!!! Sounds like we have similar styles. I am excited to watch as you tackle your projects and goals.
