For Japan

I’m Japanese.  I’m also Mexican and Puerto Rican.  My grandparents met during the Korean War.  My grandmother was a Japanese war bride; my grandfather was a Mexican American army man.  One of their daughters is my awesome mom who married my dad who is Puerto Rican (they’re divorced now) so I’m what has been termed a “Japorican” (a Japanese, Mexican, Puerto Rican American)!  We’re not even going to talk about how mixed my kids are 🙂   My grandmother came to the States not knowing the language.  She was and forever will be the strongest woman I’ve ever known.  I learned from her how to stand up for what I believe and to never be afraid to let my voice be heard.  She lived an incredible life.  I know the devastation to her home country would be heartbreaking to her.  Today I’m joining my fellow bloggers in a day of silence.

In response to the ongoing devastation in Japan, Utterly Engaged and Ever Ours have teamed up to collect funds for emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies via Shelterbox.
