What Do You Think Of This?

My father-in-law dropped this off at my house over the weekend.

He works at a place that takes in scrap metal and someone brought this in.  He didn’t need/want it, so he brought it over to us.  He said, “Use it or sell it – it’s up to you all honey.”  Exact words.  This fixture is massive.  We have a vaulted foyer, so if we use it that’s where it will hang.  But first, I have to ask what do you all think of this free brassy chandy?  What would you do with it if it was given to you?  Keep it (as is), update it, or would you just sell the thing and go for something entirely different?  Let ‘er rip guys!  I can’t wait to hear what you think!

  • FAB.U.LUSS!!! you lucky girl! I don't remember what your foyer looks like (if you've shown us) but if it were me, I'd paint it in white gloss. With your decor, it might look really cool in a bronze finish too though! Have fun! can't wait to see more! 🙂

  • Wow! What a great freebie! I agree with white gloss or maybe black..?? I noticed your dining room fixture is black. Good luck!

  • Hi, I don't remember how I found your blog, but sure enjoyed looking around. I would keep the free brass chandelier and turn your brassy to classy with paint. I've found a few of those 3 and 4 tier lights, and modified them into one tier or 2-tier chandelier's and even added crystals. Have fun!

  • I agree with painting it… either white (I personally love an antiquey type finish but thats just me!) or ORB. I have been looking for tiny chandys because of our low ceilings as in 6 inches lower than standard ceilings, yep 76" versus the standard 82". so now we are working on the cottage look with a bit of tuscan and modern lines thrown in to mix it up.

Sorry I digressed…. you do have a winner and I can hardly wait to see what you do with her! I am sure it will turn out lovely!!!

  • If you like the brass, then keep it. If you like the shape but not the color, then spray paint it! White, black, ORB, all mentioned above sounds nice to me. Or even a pop of color like red might be fun. Either way its just $4 for the spray paint.

  • Love it. Sort of over the top, could go gaudy, but it's pretty awesome. I would leave it brass, but I'm loving brass. If that doesn't work in your house, I would probably go black. Also love others' idea about little shades.

    What a fun find!

  • Do you want classy or funky? If you want to keep ot classy, then definitely paint it an oil rubbed bronze or a pewter and potentially maybe add shades to the piece if you wanted to be a little over the top.

However, I love me something funky, big and statement making, so I would paint the sucker red – like fire engine red and the little plates where each of the "candles" are at would go black or maybe turquoise. If you didn't want to put that much effort into it, then I would find beautiful yarn and make it into a big wooly mammoth of a chandy…..but I am weird like that 🙂
