Crochet Chain Flower Tutorial – You don’t have to know how to crochet to make these flowers!

You don’t need to know how to crochet to make these flowers. You do need to know how to chain. Don’t worry. I’m going to teach you, and it’s super easy. Learning how to chain is the first step in learning to crochet. Let’s begin!

How to make a chain:

You will need some yarn and a crochet hook. Any size you prefer will work. The larger the hook the larger the stitches (or chains). You can buy crochet hooks at any craft store.

Start by making a slipknot.

You want to hold the crochet hook in your writing hand. Your other hand keeps the tension of the yarn. I hold the yarn like this, but you can hold the yarn however you feel comfortable. I realize this sounds rather technical, but I promise when you get the yarn and hook in your hand it will totally make sense!

Now you’re ready!

Keep “yarning over” and pulling through the loop on the hook until you’ve reached your desired length of chain. Each time you pull the yarn through the loop that is considered one chain.

That’s all! Now you know how to chain.

So, now you can make a crochet chain flower!

To make these flowers I used jute twine and 2 different color yarns.

I chained all three together following the same steps above.

My finished chain was about 14 inches long.

Then I cut the ending strings from the chain and hot glued the chain to a small burlap square.

Then start wrapping around in a circle hot gluing every now and again.

When you get to the end cut off the ending strings and hide the knot in the back.

I used a little nailhead trim to embellish but this is totally optional.

I really love the mix of yarns. It really gives this flower lots of texture and dimension. These flowers are so easy to make. Seriously, you could bust out like a million of these all while watching Vampire Diaries – just sayin’. You can turn them into hair clips, pins, or pillow embellishments. For those of you who have been wanting to learn how to crochet, these flowers will give you lots of practice chaining. You’ll soon be well on your way to crocheting!
