Remember these wooden spoons I painted?

Well, I found one of them used and abused in the kitchen sink the other day. Apparently, the hubs used one of my spoons to mix up a batch of cherry Crystal Light.

Ummmm…….yeah……CHERRY flavor………really?! These photos were taken after I tried soaking it in distilled vinegar for a couple of hours. It originally looked like he dipped it in red paint. The vinegar soak helped a little but not much. It probably would have worked perfectly if it had been anything other than a red stain.

Why didn’t he just use one of the other wooden spoons – the ones I keep in the little drawer to the right of the stove for sauces? Why did he have to use my pretty spoon? Why didn’t he rinse the spoon instead of leaving it in the sink allowing the stain to really set in good. These are the mysteries aren’t they?

Do you have any special tips or advice on how to get a stain out of a wooden spoon?

And they use the pretty monogrammed hand towels too, what are they thinking????? LOL

I'm just poking fun at the differences between men and women. I realize how trivial a spoon is – I just think it's funny how clueless my hub can be in terms of decor stuff, but God forbid anyone drop a crumb in his car! 😉

It's the little things like this that can start a major fight, uh "discussion" in our house 🙂 I have a thing about hand towels…some are for drying your hands, some are for looking at. Totally unrealistic in this house but I still try.

Oh no! My husband totally would have done the same thing and then gotten mad that I had a spoon that he couldnt use haha!

Stick it in a glass of water with a tiny bit of bleach – but don't cover the paint. Should come right out. – Ellen

yes on the bleach and make sure it is not too close to the paint and it will wick up and yes it is just a SPOON.we want assist but make mountains out of molehills and wonder why they stop assists after awhile. Sorry but it is a spoon and you could consider it more patriotic than the others.

All I have to say….is you need to paint another one….union jack style 🙂

Such a man thing to do. I dont think it looks that bad though. Try the bleach and Im sure it will work, if not it will fade with time and look at it and shake your head. I think it's obvious you are having fun Not seeing the need to point out that its a "SPOON"… i'm sure Carmel knows and did not beat him with it 😉

Try the bleach, but one of the things I'd also try is after another vinegar soak, allow it to sit in the sun. I've done that with stubborn fabric stains and the sun always bleaches it out or at least lightens it. Of course, just as with the bleach tip, cover the painted end with a cloth so it doesn't fade along with the stain.
The funny thing? In my household, I'd probably be more likely to end up staining the spoon! My husband tells me I have a "frat boy" side. Well, I WAS a tomboy growing up! Haha!

Okay I have to admit I found this to be rather humorous because it would have been (and has been) me that used the spoon. I'll be the first to admit that I like my decor to be multi-purpose… as it I use it too. 🙂

However FloridaTav makes a great point… soak it in vinegar again and then put it outside in the sun to dry! I've found the combination to work wonders even on my 3 inch thick butcher's block cutting board. (we won't discuss what happened to cause me to know this first hand… ha ha!)

You said that red was your favorite color! I'm sure he understand the "special" spoons now, just like you had to explain the "special" towels to him. Now, show him that you are NOT a sick perfectionist by putting the other 2 spoons in the Crystal Light!!!

My husband would have done the same, cute spoons.. Hope it cleans up nicely with these suggestions

I would have been asked "Why is it on the counter if I can't use it?"
