From Cheap Mirrors to Chalkboard Panels

Hey all!  Thanks so much for all of your sweet anniversary wishes!  We celebrated with a nice dinner on Saturday night and a relaxing Sunday with the kids.

Today I’m concluding the dining room disaster saga.  You may remember the hot mess I was left with after a frame fell and knocked down everything in it’s path.

I took it as a sign and decided to change things up a bit.

I bought these mirrors, that are made to hang on the back of a closet door, at Target for about $5 each………

and sprayed them with chalkboard paint.

Then I hung them with heavy duty command strips.

This is one of my favorite quotes!

Stacking these smaller door mirrors to create a large scale chalkboard piece was not only more cost effective but it also adds a bit more interest.  Total cost for this project was around $25 for the mirrors and spray paint – not too bad, especially considering the scale.
And you might have also noticed I hit up the Nate Berkus Collection at Target.
chevron jars
I just had to have these chevron jars!  The horseshoe art was another super easy diy project.  I’ll share the deets later this week.
Have you turned any cheap mirrors into chalkboards?

  • Cute, clever and very sweet! I personally think this is prettier than what your previous design was — sorry — don't mean to be insulting — but this is really adorable! I'm sure your children like to see notes/signs like this around your home. Mine do — and they will remember this when they are all grown up and you will know for sure that they enjoyed their home!

  • I love it! I had 3 of those in our old dining room – also hung horizontally but actually used as mirrors to bring some light into a VERY dark room. One didn't make it through the move – but the other two are currently hanging in my entry and I just don't love it. I think I might just have to copy you… Oh and I LOVE that quote!

  • Hi! I'm late but wondering where you're finding chalkboard spray paint these days? Can't find if anywhere!! ;(
LOVE your home and gorgeous decorating!!!

  • Love, love, love!!! I love chalkboards and already have one in my dining room, but I am loving this and thinking 'what can I take down to make room'? Clever! I use old picture frames to make mine; these mirrors are an inexpensive and great choice! 🙂

  • Interested in knowing does the chalkboard paint adhere well to the glass finish of the mirror?
    Thanks. they are awesome
