Halloween Mantel

I don’t really do Halloween decor.  I’ve just never really been into spooky stuff.  I don’t like scary movies.  I like the treats not the tricks.  I could in all honestly completely skip over the entire holiday and be completely fine.  My kids on the other hand are in full on countdown mode.  They love getting dressed up to go trick or treating!  They don’t like the spooky stuff either, but they like the cute stuff – you know like those witches that fly into trees.  My kids love those!   This is the first time I’ve ever decorated my mantel for Halloween – like ever.  I’m blaming it on the candlesticks that literally jumped into my cart at Target.  Dang clearance stickers.

Target Halloween candlesticks

Look what they made me do.

You remember the clock that jumped off the wall in my dining room?  Well, here it is for now.  White Beauty put on a boa; she’s getting all festive.  I found a paper mask at CVS for a $1 and sprayed it gold.  The owl art I bought months ago at Goodwill for $3.  I think it might go in the kids bathroom – someday.

And then there are those scrabble tile coasters again.  The ones I bought at a local coffee shop last year.  I love them!   I’ve used them here and here.  I used drapery clips to hang them from a piece of twine I taped to the mantel.

So there you have it – the story of how a Target clearance sticker roped me into decorating for Halloween.

My kids love it!

Do you decorate for Halloween?  Or do you skip it like I usually do?  I think I might do this again next year.  It feels kind of like Harry Potter meets Bippity Boppity Boo meets Ding Dong the Witch is Dead meets Phantom of the Opera……and I can totally handle that kind of Halloween decor.

  • Oh, that Target will do it to you every time. Things are always jumping off the shelves into my basket there. It's weird. 🙂

I used to be general fall decor, then I surrendered a couple years ago to amp it up for my little people. Now I'm sucked in. The dollar section at Target doesn't help either.

    Your mantel looks great.

  • I just checked out Cassie from Hi Sugarplum and then popped in over here…..good design minds think alike. Funny how 2 striped candles can make 2 peeps so creative. Love both designs.

  • Dang Target!! haha LOVE those stripped candles though, i saw Cassie had some too and now, I'll probably be heading to Target!!

That clock on the mantel is AMAZING!! Do you mind me asking where it's from?

    xo, Courtney 🙂

  • I don't usually decorate for Halloween either. I usually just decorate for fall & skip all the spooky stuff, but like you, my kids get into all that stuff, so I've thought about decorating this year! Guess I better get on it if I'm gonna do it since it's just one week away!! 🙂

The owl print that you bought at Goodwill, I'm with Beth. I'm pretty sure my mom had that print in our house when I was growing up. Is it from Home Interiors?! Too funny!

  • Cute and simple! I don't get terribly into halloween either (especially as I don't have kids), so I like the harry potter/phantom/et al mashup you have going on. I think I could handle something like this is my house since I love HP and Phantom. Every year I try to get my boyfriend to dress as the Phantom and every year he declines…. One day!!

  • Carmel,

I'm not that into Halloween, either….especially anything scary! I like scary movies, either! Your mantel is not scary…..and way cute!

  • I completely love your festive little mantel! That Target clearance section is dangerous (yet amazing) – I snagged myself 4 black owl appetizer plates for $.60 each last night!

Me personally, I'm a Halloween-junkie. I used to HATE every kind of scary thing… then I started watching the TV show "Supernatural" and somehow developed this sincere appreciation for all things horror and gore (As in, obsess over the TV show "American Horror Story" and cheesy slasher films). Now I am practically distraught that we find ourselves in the middle of a move over Halloween and I don't get to decorate since everything is in boxes 🙁
Next year, though – it's on like Donkey Kong 🙂

  • That is about all the "spooky" I can handle too and I think your Halloween mantel is just right! We are big ol' chickens when it comes to scary things around our house so I don't really do "Halloween" decorating but stick to Fall decor. 🙂

  • So funny – I just bought the last pack of these same candles from my Target on Tuesday, lol. Mine were on the end aisle clearance display, totally sucked me in with the clearance stickers.
