Screened Porch Progress

At the beginning of the month I told you all about our plan to make one of our big house dreams a reality this summer.  We’ve had so much rain this summer that it doesn’t look like the building process is going to be done until fall, but we’ve been enjoying the process.  I’m not going to lie; our backyard is kind of hot mess with sawdust and wood piled up everywhere.  But when it’s finally done I know that it will all have been totally worthwhile.

Here’s a look at the progress so far.  Just for kicks  – and for the new people around here  – here’s how our deck looked last summer.

And here’s a look at the work in progress.  I snapped these photos last evening just before the sun went down.

I’m slightly obsessed with the way the floor boards meet in the middle.

We’re going to have to make some changes to the fire pit area…….why does one project always lead to another?
Hopefully in a month I’ll have some after photos for you……we’ll see.

  • OMG, that floor is amazing! What an awesome project. You are going to love having a screened porch…we use ours all the time and it's a must-have for the bugs we have here in New England. Can't wait to see the progress!

  • uh yeah! the floor rocks – I will definitely be pinning this for our deck-to-screen-porch renovation (yes, we have one on the to-do list also – and since my husband does this kind of thing for a living our house is kind of last on the list 🙁 ) can't wait to see if finished, Carmel 🙂

  • I absolutely love the design that you guys are making with patterning the boards! looks ahhhmaazzing! I am glad we are not the only ones with the "one project leads to another" problem. We have to move our fire pit soon too but in the end it will be all worth it right?! cannot wait to see the finished product!!

  • Gorgeous floor! I would love a screened-in porch in our next house so that we can hide from all the West Nile Virus carrying mosquitoes that we have here in Massachusetts.

  • This is going to be flippin' AMAZING & well worth the wait! Love the herringbone layout (or is it chevron, ah I never know). You ARE having me over for a glass or 4 of Cabernet, right? I don't need the screened-in part to be finished, I'm not picky.

  • So exciting! I lOVE the staircase. Can't wait to see more progress pics. And yes, every single thing you do leads to another addition to the to-do list.

  • Wow! The floors and the stairs, amazingly beautiful! I can't wait for it to be finished! I'm absolutely certain it's going to be really lovely. What a great idea you have for the stairs. I really love how it looks. I've never really thought about screened porch and that floor design meeting in the middle until i came across this post. I'm excited to see how everything will turn out. I can't wait for the pit area too. I know it's going to be as nice as the porch.
