a valentine’s day mantel

Happy Tuesday friends!  The Tuesday after a 3 day weekend is always a happy day, isn’t it?  I always feel more rested and more enthusiastic about the week ahead……….but maybe that’s just because Friday comes sooner.  ðŸ˜‰

I have to admit I was never one to decorate my home for the day of love until I had kids.  Something about being a mother sparked an interest in adding little decorative touches to our home for every holiday both large and small.  My kids are still at an age where they look forward to every holiday with a lot of giddy excitement, and it’s their excitement that fuels my holiday decorating.  That being said, I’m all about little tweaks and simple decorative touches, so it’s easy to do and doesn’t take much time.

Grouping items of the same color seems to work pretty well, so my tendency to hoard white vases and vessels now has more purpose.  ðŸ˜‰

Alstroemeria is my favorite bang for the buck flower!  They last forever, and they’re nice and easy on the budget.  One $3.99 bouquet mixed with some magnolia branches from my yard makes for an inexpensive, long-lasting and fresh looking display.

Local Lexington friends, I’ve mentioned Coffee Times before, but don’t forget they not only sell great coffee but they carry some of the best, unique decor items.  The blue and white pieces pictured above are actually intended to be used for hot tea, but they double as pretty bud vases.   Be sure to check out the store when you pop in for coffee!

  • I love the little red and white hearts! I discovered your blog last weeks and I've spent hours admiring your projects and inspiration! Valentine's Day is not a big holiday here in France so we don't decorate but after seeing this I'm thinking I might 🙂 Marjolaine

  • Your blue and white teapot-turned-bud-vase is doing double V-Day duty…it has the Chinese character for "double joy" that is traditionally used as a blessing for newlyweds. 🙂
