from a nursery rocker to a big girl’s chair

My 7 year old girl forbid me to ever get rid of her nursery rocking chair.

She loves to sit in this chair and read.  She also still likes to curl up in my lap and have me rock her.  She’s my baby.  She always will be, so as long as she wants me to hold her and rock her I’m going to do it.
I thought about having the chair recovered to give it a more grown up look, but I just couldn’t get rid of the soft chenille fabric.  It holds so many memories, and it’s not in bad shape at all.  So I gave it a quick big girl update with a few accessories.  Enter the throw, pillow and pouf – boom.

I’m slightly obsessed with the pouf.  I picked it up at Target last week.
nursery rocker update
A little less baby and slightly more big girl but still totally sweet.  She’s a fan and that’s all that really matters.
I think I spent the first year of her life sleeping in that chair.  It’s funny how many memories can be tied to one piece of furniture.  Do you have any pieces of furniture like that in your home?

  • What a perfect update. Every addition is awesome. You rock (as always)!
I was so excited when we purchased our dining room table. We just have one for all meals so this table is a big deal. Sees all the joys, big decisions, birthdays, holidays. It is solid oak and will last forever. This is an adult table. It made me feel like a big kid when we bought it. It has been about 10 years and I'm sure it will live for several more decades and family stories!

  • It looks great! The chair has great lines and you did a great job of evolving it for a big girl room. I spent most of my baby's first year on the floor—I have no idea why I didn't buy furniture! I think we were just overwhelmed.

  • We are looking for a nursery chair for my daughter's baby to be. Would you share the manufacturer, style, etc.?

  • Oh I love it and it is perfect for a big girl. Love the fluffy pillow. I would love for you to link up to my 198th Inspire Me party. – – -http://www.astrollthrulife.net/2014/01/198th-inspire-me-tuesday.html Hope to see you there. Hugs Marty

  • yes, almost everything in my house is linked to a memory. i wouldn't have it any other way! I've told you before, but it's worthy of repeating…I LOVE YOUR HOME AND YOUR DECORATING STYLE….you have alot of "fresh" ideas!

  • I really love it! That throw is awesome but that pouf is even better. We've been snowed in for three days but may venture out to Target today. I'll have to check it out. 🙂

  • I was just thinking this morning about how thankful I am for our glider. I think it's one of the best pieces of furniture you can buy, especially if you have kids! I don't think I'll ever get rid of ours 🙂
