solving the little tile issue

Happy Monday friends!  I had a great weekend, and I’m feeling much better.  Thank you all so much for your well wishes!

You may remember when I showed you the finished tile wall in the kids bathroom that I was a little unsure about the grey caulk line where the tile met the countertop.  If I had to do this project all over again I would have chosen to start the tile higher up on the wall and cut the tiles to fit flush against the countertop.  Hindsight is always 20/20 isn’t it?  Since there was really no going back, unless I wanted to start digging out the caulk line and attempt to cut teeny, tiny pieces of tile to fill in those little gaps and I really did not want to do that, I decided to attach a small piece of molding.

Since I had already framed out the tile wall with molding around the sides, the piece of molding I added where the tile hits the countertop blends in perfectly. The whole tile wall looks a lot more finished now.
After I gave the molding a couple coats of paint, I attached it with caulk.  Then I caulked the gaps and gave it a couple coats of minwax helmsman spar urethane to protect it from water exposure.

It blends right in and is hardly noticeable at all.  It totally solved the problem in the easiest way possible, and it’s been holding up perfectly!

The kids bathroom is almost done, and I couldn’t be happier!

  • great idea! i am stuck on what to do where my tile ends on the wall. above there will be a white wood shelf, but the two sides…. we have sort of awkward walls so i had to stop it in weird places. i am thinking of using wood molding as they don't make bullnose for the tile i have.

  • It looks stunning! You have my wheels turning for tiling the bathroom vanity walls in my kids' bathrooms now. Once I remove MORE wallpaper, that is. 😉

  • Glad to hear you're feeling better! I love this trim at the bottom of the tile. The white blends beautifully with the countertop. Well done!

  • It looks great! This was such a beautiful project to begin with, but the extra molding at the bottom really "finishes" it. I never would've thought to do that. Beautiful bathroom!

  • Congratulations on coming up with a great solution. It looks like it was 'possed to be that way, and I'm so glad you took the time and extra steps to make sure that water would not destroy all your hard work. Some of the original comments were also "right on", in that a few carefully placed accessories go a long way to help with the solution. Glad to hear you are feeling better. Take care of yourself.
