rearranging in the kitchen

One of the great things that summer brings back into our lives is a lazy Saturday morning.  I for one relish a good, lazy weekend morning!  With school out, after school activities come to an end, and early mornings on a soccer field are over……..for a few months at least.  Some mornings we stay home in our pajamas ’til noon, and some we throw on whatever we can find that looks halfway decent and go out for breakfast or hit up the farmers market.  Personally, it’s a jammies ’til noon type of Saturday that makes me most happy!

No matter what kind of morning it is though, my day starts right here.
Our Fifth House - kitchen rearranging

More specifically this little corner of my kitchen where the Keurig machine lives.  I’m not fully awake until I’ve had my coffee.

Every morning I stand in this corner and struggle to find things in that small cabinet to the right (in the picture above) where I keep all of the coffee essentials  -mugs, extra k-cups, ground coffee, etc.  I often have to push things aside in order to get to what I’m looking for in that small-ish cabinet…………but this past lazy, Saturday morning I realized the simplest solution to my problem would be a five minute switcharoo.  Why had I not thought to do this sooner?!
I moved the drinking glasses over to the small cabinet where I used to keep all the coffee stuff…………..

and I put all the coffee stuff in the larger double cabinet where the drinking glasses had been.

Am I the only one that hardly ever thinks to do stuff like this?  I mean, just because the coffee stuff had lived in that same cabinet since the day we moved in 4 years ago doesn’t mean it can’t live in a different cabinet.  Why not rearrange, if the current set-up isn’t exactly ideal?  It was a total “duh” moment for me – do you have those?  This is why I love me a lazy, Saturday morning.  It gives you a chance to stop and think……………and do a 5 minute switcharoo that is totally life changing………..okay maybe not life changing…………..but definitely daily life improving.

No more shuffling through the smaller cabinet trying to find my favorite coffee mug.  This set up is so much better!  Have you done any 5 minute switcharoos in your home lately?

  • Yes I did a switch-a-roo with my plates. Glass plates, and heavy when I'd have a stack to put away…across the room. Now they are in the closest cupboard next to the sink. Like you said…duh!!!

  • I wish I could say I have those "ahaaa" moments all the time, but they are rare, so… when I have them, I try to act on them like you did. We really DO get in RUTS, don't we? This looks so organized! Good for you! Also… I have WAY TOO MANY drinking vessels in my home. Am I the only one? I have to do regular purges!!!

  • I have those moments all.the.time. 🙂 I just recently put a clock in the bathroom because I was so tired of always having to peek into the bedroom to see what time it was when I was getting ready in the mornings. Should have put a clock in there a long time ago. 🙂 And P.S…how stinkin' cute are you in your pj's?! Love it!

  • Well, one thing that has helped us to keep our glassware under control is the fact that we've moved so many times. 😉 I think a dozen glasses have broken in each move. ha!

  • I don't do much switching around cabinets I do this on my counters all the time. The Mr has slowly got used to the fact that things just might be in different places when he returns home from work. I just think it either looks better or is so much more functional. Thank you for sharing your little cabinet upgrade. 🙂

  • What a pretty little corner of home. I love how you styled it! I need to have more "duh" moments like this and get my house back in order this summer. When we moved here 4 years ago, the very first thing we did was set up the coffee station. We had a box that had all the fixins in it and we seriously unpacked it first! Ummmm…..problem? Coffee addicts much? 🙂

  • Did you paint your cabinets? I am new to your blog. I am thinking about painting the cabinets in a house we are moving into soon. If you did, any tips or tricks you can give me? I also love the UK cups. My husband and I are originally from Kentucky and went to UK. We live in Illinois now. Go CATS!
