Continuing on with the room tours, today I’m sharing our master bedroom. (Feel free to get caught up with the room tour series here – kitchen, entry, dining, living, patio, screened porch, master bathroom, basement and office.) If you’ve ever doubted the power of paint, our master bedroom makeover will make you a believer. It is absolutely amazing to me just how much of an impact a new paint color and a few accessory changes can make in a space.
Before
After
See what I mean about the power of paint?! Granted we did have the old white wall to wall carpet replaced with a nice neutral berber carpet that has the look of a natural fiber rug. But all in all the main change in the space are the dramatic navy walls. The cherry furniture really pops against this color (Martha Stewart Wrought Iron). I also added a color on the ceiling (Martha Stewart Sandstone) to soften the room and make the crown moulding stand out even more. The color on the ceiling in here is the same color I used on the walls in the master bathroom. I like the way that one simple detail helps the two spaces to flow.
I replaced the ceiling fan with a chandy (West Elm). I also changed out the iron sconces for a couple of chrome swing arm wall lamps (Lowe’s). I like the way the more modern lighting strikes a balance with the traditional four poster bed. You may have also noticed that I changed the hardware on the dresser. I replaced the traditional shiny brass with wrought iron pulls (The Home Depot). Furniture makeovers don’t always have to involve paint. Sometimes a quick hardware change is all you need. Simple. Quick. I’m all about it.
In a little corner by the window I created a reading nook for myself. This is my fav spot in the house to curl up with a cup of coffee or glass of wine and a good book or magazine!
In lieu of traditional nightstands, I brought in a desk and small dresser for either side of the bed. This little desk is where I used to blog until I created a workspace for myself down in the basement. The chair was a quick furniture makeover project.
It’s been a few years and I’ve yet to tire of the navy walls. If you’ve been thinking of trying a bold wall color, I say go for it! It could be just the change you’ve been craving, and you just can’t beat the major bang for the buck impact a paint color change can make in a room.
I love the corner filled with pictures. You can really feel the love of family. I'm also impressed by how the dark walls turned out. I lean more toward light colors, but the color you chose if very rich and cozy.
