These diy striped wall vases I made for our entry foyer are the easiest little project!
To highlight the large framed art print I selected to hang over the bench in the entry foyer I decided to flank the picture with a pair of wall vases. I’ve had these glass wall vases for years; but this time instead of just hanging them on the wall I decided to create a base for them in order to create a bit more visual impact and also to add some pattern to the space. These little guys definitely deliver a fun dose of personality here. Wall vases in general are just so fun as there are limitless options depending on what flowers or greenery you choose to display.
This was literally the easiest little diy project in large part because as any of you who have ever painted stripes before can attest, it’s all about using a good painter’s tape.
And not all painter’s tapes are created equal. In fact, there’s a new kid on the block, Sale Release by 3M, and she’s a game changer y’all! The folks at Lowe’s Home Improvement sent me a roll to try. I was glad to add it to my stash of painting supplies, but I wasn’t expecting to love it so much. Honestly, I was pretty surprised at how great it is. For one thing you don’t need scissors to cut it into perfect 90 degree angles, which that alone is a huge time saver. All you do is rip it off with your hands, and it tears in perfectly straight lines. It’s absolutely crazy town! Even my 9 year old could do it! And for something like this striped project this tape leaves really nice, crisp lines.
All I did for this project was grab some scrap pieces of primed moulding. I measured and cut them down to the size I wanted, then gave them a base coat of white paint (trim paint). Once the paint was dry, I used a ruler and pencil to mark where I wanted to apply my tape so that each stripe would be exactly the same size. I put the tape down then painted black where you see white below so that when the tape was lifted there were alternating equal sized black and white stripes.
It took two coats of black paint to get a good even coverage. Once the paint was dry I lifted the tape and had perfectly straight crisp stripes! To attach these babies to the wall, I screwed them in at the top and bottom. For the top screw I didn’t screw it in all the way so that I could hang the glass wall vase from it. To make the screws disappear I painted them.
Hardly any effort at all to create a bolder statement with these sconces. It’s nice to add hand crafted elements like this into a space to create more of a one-of-a-kind look in your home.
If you’ve got a painting project on the horizon check out Safe-Release Painter’s Tape from 3M, honestly, I think you’ll be just as impressed with it as I am. I wasn’t at all compensated for this post, just sent the tape in the mail to try. And you can be sure now that I’ve tried it I’m a convert. No more trying to cut tape in perfectly straight lines with scissors! Seriously, the ease of ripping tape with your hands into perfect 90 degree angles is such a game changer. I also used this tape to paint the inside of our front door which I’ll be sharing very soon.
For anyone interested in creating a similar look in your home I rounded up a few similar wall vases that would be perfect for this project.
I am in love with your entire entryway area! Your art choices are just perfect. I have a pair of old wall vases that I’m seriously considering digging out again after seeing this. May I ask what kind of flowers you used? Can’t wait to see your final reveal!
