Hey friends and happy Friday! Today I’m excited to be participating in a (virtual) Southern Road Trip, a blog collaboration dreamed up and organized by my friend Heather at Southern State of Mind. She’s rounded up a group of us southern bloggers to take you all on a road trip through the south right from the comfort of your couch. So grab yourself another cup of coffee and get comfy!
If you’re visiting from Domestic Charm in Charlotte, North Carolina, welcome! I’m actually heading home to Charleston from Charlotte this morning as the hubs and I went on a little overnight date to see The Cure in concert!
As many of y’all know I moved to Charleston, SC from Lexington, KY last summer. This past year has been a whirlwind of activity from moving to my dream city (moving here was on my bucket list!), unpacking, getting settled and trying to learn my way around (thank the good Lord for the Waze app)!
I’ve spent much of my time doing what I love most, making our new to us house feel like home. (Check out the “finished” spaces – front porch, entry foyer, living room, powder room and screened porch) However, as much I love diy projects and decorating, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed exploring our new hometown. I’ve especially loved finding cool local shops as I’m a big believer in supporting small, local businesses. Today I’m excited to shine a spotlight on a brand new shop on historic King Street. Be the Change Boutique and Texture Design Co share a home at 218 B and definitely add to the quintessential unique charm that is King Street shopping.
Be the Change Boutique offers a totally unique shopping experience as they’ve teamed up with organizations that give back both locally and globally. So literally every purchase not only has a purpose but a beautiful story to go along with it. Purchases from Be the Change are quite literally changing the life of someone in need of a skill, job, education, fresh water or warm blanket. At Be the Change Boutique their goal is to simply help others by making ethical shopping easy and fun.
The shop is filled with everything from clothing and shoes to jewelry, totes, cool housewares, lotions and coffee….plus more!
I’m partial to the unique housewares!
My daughter is a fan of all the beautiful jewelry!
The great thing for those of you at home that aren’t local is that you can also shop Be the Change Boutique online!
Heading across the hall at 218B you’ll get to visit Emily at Texture Design Co.
Those of you who have been following Our Fifth House for a while may remember this past fall when I featured Emily’s art. She’s a graphic design artist who creates the most fun prints and cards as well as beautiful custom house portraits.
I am absolutely thrilled to see Emily taking her online shop to a brick-and-mortar! King Street is the perfect place for her as many of her prints would be great souvenirs for remembering a trip to Charleston!
(Bridge, Bike, Rainbow Row)
Any of the above prints would make for a great addition to a gallery wall. What better way to remember a vacation?!
And how fun are these coffee mugs?! I just had to have one!
Her new shop is filled with all kinds of fun prints and cards for all occasions, but I myself am partial to the Charleston prints.
While she now has a physical location on King Street, you can still buy her goods online, including her beautiful custom house portraits!
So if you’re ever in Charleston be sure to stop by 218B King St and tell the girls at Be the Change Boutique and Texture Design Co. that Carmel sent you! 🙂 The local shops on King are my absolute favorite! As much as I love Anthropologie and Pottery Barn, it’s the small, local boutiques that make the shopping experience on King St. so special and charming!
