When Canvas Prints Work Better

Back in the summer I framed three engineering prints of photos I took during our trip to Italy.  I hung them above the bar cart in our open kitchen and dining area.  Engineering prints are great when you want something large in scale at an affordable price.  But since I was going for affordability here, I didn’t want to pay for custom framing.  And with all the light we get in our kitchen not having a museum grade glass front on these frames was a mistake.  *(Museum glass cuts the glare.  Any frame shop will be able to offer you this type of glass which is a little more expensive but great in spaces where glare is a huge concern.)  Even though this spot doesn’t face a window, it is directly across from a large mirror that does and the light in this space bounces right off of these frames.  Thereby drawing the eye to the glare rather than the print.  And well, after a while, this kind of bugged me.

Case In Point

You just couldn’t appreciate the photos for most of the day.  I at first considered custom framing, but it seemed silly to pay a lot to frame an engineering print.  So I scrapped that idea almost immediately and decided to look into canvas prints.

Easy Canvas Prints

And after scouring the interwebs for a good deal, I found that Easy Canvas Prints offered the best pricing for large canvases.  *(This is not a sponsored post.)  I ordered 3 in black and white and was surprised at how fast they arrived at my door!

To give them a little something extra, I added these gold corner brackets I picked up at the hardware store.  I think they dress them up a little and are a good replacement for a traditional frame. It took all of maybe 10 minutes to add the corner brackets.  I used a Sharpie to mark the holes then nailed in a pilot hole before adding the screws.

And just like that you can now appreciate the photos rather than getting blinded by the glare!

I really love how these look, and not having a frame on them somehow draws even more attention to the beauty of the photo.  At least to me it does.  😉

I had the sides done in black so even though they’re unframed they still have a finished look.

These photos make so happy!  Vacation photos are my favorite souvenirs!

  • I have a few areas where the glare is a problem as well. I also like to use canvas prints over beds because I worry about hanging something heavy over our heads! Your photos look beautiful!

  • Found them in the aisle with the door and cabinet hardware. I’m sure every store keeps them in a different spot. If you ask a store clerk to help you find corner brackets they will lead you right to these. They often come in a couple of different sizes. For this project I bought the larger size.

  • Love these prints!!! We were in Europe last year and this would be a great way to remember it. Can I ask what size these are? Looks awesome!!! I loved reading about your Italy trip. Thanks for all the time you put into this blog.

    Happy Thanksgiving

  • Thank you! These are 18 x 24 – I wanted them to be just a tad smaller in width than the bar cart. I love having vacation photos throughout the house – such a great way to remember a trip!
