Kitchen Organization Plans

What is it about the month of January that makes you want to organize every nook and cranny of your home?  I’ve been bitten by the organizing bug and watch out because I am on a mission.  Nevermind that the current state of affairs actually looks worse than the before, but that just means I’m making progress right?

I was really on my game when we first moved in to our home back in 2015, but things have gone to the bad place….mainly in my kitchen.  Ok, it’s not that bad, but it’s definitely time for a good old fashioned purge, clean and refresh.

The Domino Effect

Actually this kitchen reorganization all started right before the holidays when I finally installed one of these bad boys.  Hello game changer!  It’s normal to be this pumped about a pull-out trashcan right?  Figuring you guys probably don’t actually want to see a picture of my trash, so here’s the clean advertisement photo.  😉

Seriously though I have no idea why it took me so long to clear out a cabinet and install one of these pull-out trashcans!  It took like 5 minutes…..ok, more like 10, to install, and it has made life so. much. easier.  Dramatic much?  But really, we used to have a stainless steel can in our pantry, and it was a pain whenever I was cooking and needed to discard of something.  Having a pull-out right next to the sink is pretty ideal.

But what happened is…..to make room for the trashcan I cleared out the cabinet that was being used to store all of our vases.  So they were relocated to the pantry…..which then made me want to reorganize the pantry……and now you see why no drawer or cabinet in my kitchen is safe at the moment.

Current State of Affairs in The Pantry

It’s not terrible, but it could be a lot better.  For the most part she still looks the way she did back in 2015 when I first got her organized.  But after a couple years of living here I’ve realized there are a few things in need of rethinking.  And there’s no better month to whip her into shape than January!  Because I’m sure by the time February 1st rolls around this organizing buzz will have fizzled.

A Few Organizing Favorites

I’m not one to think you have to buy all the organizing things or spend a fortune, but I do think there are some tried and true organizing items that are worth their weight in gold.

So are you on the organizing bandwagon this month too?   Am I the last person on Earth to install a pull-out trashcan in the kitchen?  I always assumed it was a much more difficult task than it actually was.  Here’s to doing more to make life simpler in the new year!  Happy Organizing Month!

  • Can you give me the name of the 3 light pendant you showed on insta that you are using in the pantry? I know you mentioned it was from Lowe’s. I’ve been looking for an affordable 3 light version similar to yours for my kitchen.
    Thanks

  • I wish my current pantry was as “disorganized” as your current pantry. This is on my list this month so I can wait to see what you do to yours! I’ll be tuning in!

  • I would be interested in seeing your spice cabinet. I have a entire cabinet just for my spices and there must be a better way. I have a tiered rack and a a lazy Susan.
