Now that the exterior is almost done, I’m really starting to get excited about the interior! So many of the decisions were made many months ago, and now I’ll finally be able to see it all come to life. Just this past week I finalized our lighting plan, and I can’t wait to see these fixtures get installed.
Because we’re working with an open floor plan, it was important to me that all the fixtures coordinate without being too matchy, so I’ve spent months working on this plan. I’ve decided to tie everything in the main living areas together using the same metal profile – brass. I’m going mostly classic with the lighting in this house, and I’m even going with a traditional crystal chandelier in the dining space.

In an open floor plan lighting can help to visually break the spaces up and give each room it’s own feel. For the dining room, even though it’s open and visible from the kitchen and living room, I still want it to feel like it’s own special space. And I think this crystal chandelier will not only look beautiful, but it will really set that space apart from the rest of the open concept space.
My husband’s office, which will also function as a guest bedroom, is on the first floor, so I wanted this room’s light fixture to flow nicely with the fixtures in the main living areas.

The master bedroom is also on the main level, but it’s separated from the living area by a hallway, so in here I decided to go with something a bit more modern and sculptural. I also prefer to have diffused overhead lighting in a bedroom space, so I really love that the light shines upward. The ceiling in the master is vaulted, so I think this fixture will really make that ceiling shine in the evening.
I think bedrooms and bathrooms present some really fun opportunities to do something a bit different in terms of lighting. What do you think? Do you think every light fixture in a home needs to coordinate?
Really digging the entry choice!
