I spend a lot of time on my computer and smartphone, so I decided to get some blue light blocking glasses. I knew that blue light could contribute to eye strain causing headaches and dry eyes (which I’ve experienced after long days on my laptop), and I was also aware that night time exposure could throw off your sleep pattern. But I honestly had never really thought much about the way blue light affects skin.
However research is evolving in this area and several studies have shown that blue light actually penetrates deeper into the skin than UVB rays. Long-term blue light exposure to concentrated sources of blue light energy can cause skin damage, including color changes, inflammation, and weakening of the skin’s surface. Penetrating all the way to the dermis layer, blue light affects collagen, resulting in wrinkles, under-eye circles and other signs of aging. Is your mind blown?!
And apparently the skin around the eyes is the most at risk because it’s the most delicate. So as for me and my peepers, blue light blocking glasses it is. It just kind of feels like a no brainer. And I’m not really sure why I waited so long to get myself a pair.
Of course I wanted something snazzy. I don’t want to be wearing crazy looking goggles when I get up from my computer to answer the door for the UPS guy. 😉 I also wanted to make sure to get a pair of glasses that actually worked. I’ve heard there are some blue light blocking glasses on the market that aren’t effective and don’t actually even block blue light. #suchascam
I landed on TopFoxx because they have a great, stylish collection to choose from AND all of their blue light blocking glasses come with a blue light and test card. So you can test them to make sure they’re effective. I got the Lucy clear, and I love how chic they look. Plus they’re super comfy and lightweight to wear!
